Which childhood...

did you find to be the most saddening? What I mean is, what took your breath away, made you cry, something that made you think "Geez, that kid had it bad!"

For example, the most angsty childhood that got me was Gaara's. I'm sitting here, thinking of my fanfiction and how I wanted the childhood of my made-up characters to be. THEN I thought of the characters of Naruto.

You have Naruto, lonely because everyone knows he has the kyuubi inside him that he didn't know for awhile and everyone stayed away from him,Sasuke--who had his whole clan murdered by his brother, plus his parents and also ended up alone, Neji--with his whole family situation, Chouji--with the trouble of being ratherly "plump" and no one wanted to befriend him(you can correct me on that one if I'm wrong)...And there's Sakura...eh, I really don't think she had a depressing childhood like the others...

but I say Gaara. Gaara's bad childhood got to me. It made me cry so many times...seeing chibi Gaara cry because he's all alone ;___;

Well enough fan girl squeaking! Give me your opinion. Who had the most depressing childhood?

Wasn't Sakura teased a lot when she a kid because of her forehead? :/

I think that Gaara's childhood is the most angsty. He was feared and hated when he was a kid and the person that took care of him tried to assasinate him. T_T

Sasuke is a close second. ^^;;

Gaara's past really got to me. When I watched that part in the anime it was very sad, but later when I read it in the manga I cried. Gaara has one of the saddest pasts of any anime character I've ever seen. The one person he thought cared about him ended up betraying and trying to murder him, added with all the other stuff he had to endure... wow. I can relate a lot to how he felt, but I know I'd never be able to live through the same things he did, it would be too much for me. It's a really interesting and heartbreaking display of how abandonment and hatred can affect someone. Naruto's a close second.

I thought Lee's child hood was bad, the only one in school who couldn't use ninjitsu, and you know how everyone picks on the different kid. It even got to the point where he is willing to die to prove he can be a ninja.

Garra's childhood made me breakdown sobbing.. made me remember how alone I grew up. Its the one main reason why I like him, I can relate to being alone and wishing for friends. I fully understand why hes angsty now.

Gaara's was the worst. I felt like I wanted to cry when the flashbacks happened. That might just be because he's my favorite character but he's still the most depressing. At least to me...

yeah, I agree with ya guys. Mostly Gaara. At first, I didn't really give Gaara much attention in the beginning since he looked kind of "cold-blooded" but seeing his past, makes me understand what he's been through.

Yeah, and about Lee's: I've never really thought of his! Being teased about not using ninjustsu. ;__;

In order of most depressing to least:

Gaara, Sasuke, Naruto

The rest of them had hardships, but nothing that could compare to being despised by EVERYONE (including those who supposedly love you most)...witnessing the murder of your family and your entire clan...or having no one love you and a village that turns it's back on you.

But I especially feel for Gaara. Gaara came back from the dark side, and he rocks for it. If I could give that boy a hug I would! Of course, if he was close enough to hug I'd probably do something perverted too...AFTER the time jump of course ;)

I totally cried when they showed Gaara's childhood. Especially that whole scene where he tries to bring that little girl (was it a girl?) medicine becuase he hurt her and he's all sorry and she calls him a monster.

I thought a lot of them were really sad, but Gaara's definately got to me. I just couldn't take watching cute little I-Wouldn't-Hurt-A-Fly Gaara get betrayed.

Maybe I am cold-blooded because none of the childhood stories really made me cry. The thing that did make me cry is watching the outcome of the painful childhoods. Looking at it that way I'd say Tsunada's adolescence (how old was she when Dan and Nawaki died) and Sasuke's childhood are the worst, because deaths are the types that make some one go off the deep end. Lonliness and ridicule can in time heal but deep loss is by far more difficult to get over. Also I wonder about Itachi something must have happened because if you think about it his chidhood is similar to Gaara's and Naruto (sorta). His whole young life he has separted from his peers as a genius and thus denied a normal childhood. Im sure killing at the age of 13 fucks you bad. I mean just look at Itachi!

Sasuke's childhood was really, really sad. It's enough that your beloved older brother kills, EVERYONE in your family, but also to have to witness him actually killing them over and over again is just terrible. Add in the fact that he was only eight or nine and you have one poor child.

Naruto's childhood was indeed sad, however, he was not forced to witness death.

I didn't cry, really, but Chouji's really got to me. I guess it's because he's kind of a minor character and you just think of him as this fat guy, but it's amazing to me that Shikamaru befriended him and thought he was alright despite what everyone thought. You don't really know Shikamaru as a "nice guy" before this, and so it was cute how they became friends.

Most screwed up story...either Gaara or Sasuke.

And Rock Lee's was pretty rough. I'm not sure what's harder...being teased like Lee/Sakura or being ignored like Naruto.

Haku's. It's just as sad as Sasuke's or Gaara's, but it came first. Not only did he watch his dad murder his mom, but he had to murder his dad in the seconds afterwards. Gaara, despite everything else, was spoiled and at least had food, housing, etc. Haku had to live like an animal, until he was taken in by a mass murderer.

Of course, Zabuza was fucked up from childhood too, being forced to slaughter his classmates and friends before he even hit puberty. Being raised like that, and then having the government decide that what he did was wrong because he did it too well...how could he have turned out well? Meh.

Gaara's childhood was the worst in my opinion... I was bawling my eyes our for him when I watched those eps. He'd never really had anybody who cared about him at all. That page in the manga where they compare Gaara to Naruto and you see Gaara breaking down... Gawd... it makes you really wish you could change 'his past' and change all the bad things that happened... even though it's a manga ;___; *huggles Gaara so tight*

Sasuke's childhood was really bad too... and *sigh* I really dislike crying so much when watching these animes and reading mangas XD; In the latest eps/chaps, where Sasuke says that Naruto would never understand because he's been alone all his life and has never lost anyone... It's so sad. ;__; *huggles Sasuke too*

In one way or another, each of the characters have their own touching stories, but the most depressing has to be one of those two. They both started off so innocently and then were betrayed by the people around them and had to experience such horrible things at such a young age. *starting sound like a mother @___@;* Anyhow... that's my opinion. ^^;

In my opinion, Gaara had it worst. While Sasuke had some horrible childhood experiences, at least he was happy for a while. Naruto also had Iruka to acknowledge him, and he got along fine with the other kids. It was only the adults that shunned him. Gaara's past is so angsty and miserable that you can't help feeling sympathetic towards the poor kid. ;_;

Haku, until he met Zabuza, was really sad. His father going batshit on his MOM AND SON wasn't exactly nice. *sniffle*
And I'll bet ANYTHING Zabuza's was less than happy, judging by the way *he* went batshit as a six-year-old boy
But yeah, I'll agree with you. Gaara's the saddest so far.

gaara, sasuke, kakashi, haku, then tsunade (not really childhood though, huh?).

but in terms of the present state of things, sasuke's past is still the one that actively torments him. everyone else has seemed to recover thanks to a special someone or through some enlightening bout of maturity.

Personally, I think Naruto's is the saddest. Yeah, Gaara's was a real, horrible let down and stuff... but I think it's a lot sadder that people outright ignored the fact that Naruto's very existance saved their lives, and the fact that Yondaime did it with the hope that Naruto would be looked to as a hero, and yet, everyone hates him. (I know it's totally not *everyone*... because he was sorta friends with Shikaboom, Chouji and Kiba...) but it still gets to me more then Gaara's did... probably because Naruto kept trying so hard even though everyone hated him T.T
