It's really sinking in now that we're already in the second half of February. And while a part of me is a little sketched out by how the time has been flying, most of me is already anticipating March. And, more specifically, my vacation in March.

Did I tell you guys I took two weeks? Not something I'd normally do but I figured I'd go ahead. Gives me more time to work with, where planning my trip is concerned.

Anyway, if time wants to fly by just up until that point, I can't honestly say I'd be too upset about it, lol. Or, at least, I won't mind once I get everything sorted. I haven't finalized my travel plans just yet and I need that taken care of. I also want to make myself a loose shopping list. Beast Wars toys are getting more expensive all the time and so I want to buckle down on getting the characters I most want. At least I already have most of the female characters-- not a high bar to clear, hahaha *sob*. I'll probably avoid anything with GPS, since I don't want to have to worry about transporting them in my bag, but other than that? I'm gonna just narrow down what I'm missing to the most garish and gaudy and makes those my priority.

Really should poke around Tumblr and Twitter and try to get an idea what fanartists will be selling what merch too...

I really wanna get my stuff out of Google Docs. I've been meaning to for a while anyway but especially with the AI push getting more aggressive, I hate having my work in there. I've opted out of everything I can but I still don't trust it.

This makes me miss Word Pad, ngl. It wasn't perfect-- I hated having to reset my margins every time-- but it was straightforward and had an inbuilt word counter. That's all I really need. I remember when I used to just have layers of folders for different collections of wips. Ah, those bygone days. I wouldn't mind something a bit more sophisticated, mind you. I've seen some programs that seem to have some really neat organizational options and I think something like that could be helpful with some of what I want to do. But I kinda just want something simple again.

Idk, do any of you guys use anything fancy for writing?

Another slow day today but I feel better about it than I did about yesterday. Maybe it's just because there was some nice rain today.

Biggest letdown was that my sister was going to come over so I could run my recycling and then we were gonna check out Valentine's clearance. She ended up not being able to get away, though. Too much to do around the house. Ah, well, maybe next week. Not the clearance, that'll be gone, but the recycling. Then we could find something to do, I'm sure.

This has been mostly a waste of a day for me, ngl. Might be because I didn't sleep well? Idk. Anyhow, gonna keep my accountability post short-ish because I do wanna try to get better sleep tonight regardless.

So much of being a Transformers fan is just suffering one disappointment after another, lol.

I need to get my transportation figured out for TFcon in March. I'd like to go by bus this time. Well, "like to" is probably overselling it, lol. But with things as they are, I'd rather avoid giving the airlines my money. Or pictures of my face, for that matter.

Could actually be fun to take the bus, though, Idk. I've never taken one for an interstate trip. The main issue is the timing. Obviously I knew it would be much slower than taking a plane but something about looking at the estimated travel time... bleh. On the other hand, it might be easier to sleep on a bus than a plane. But maybe I only think that because I'd have more time to fall asleep, haha.

Oh, what I wouldn't give for a high-speed rail option...

Wip Wednesday! I got two prompt words last week-- fluster and frame. Both words I tend to use quite a lot! Again, I did think of doing something new for them but it simply did not happen. So, here are a few wip-clips for each of those.

(Side note, I might've said this before but one disadvantage of having played this game for so long is that I don't always remember when I've already excerpted something. I do make an effort to avoid repeats but I'm not sure about some of these. So, if anything below seems familiar, my bad.)

I hate finding out about fandom events too late. Like, it's one thing when I knew but didn't have the opportunity/chose not to participate, y'know? But to be robbed of the chance... it stings, I tell ya.

Ah, well, I'm kinda being dramatic in this case. The event is only a few days in and there's the rest of the week to go. But it still makes my brain itch in a most unpleasant way to just stumble in partway through, Idk.

My officemate has been picking up some more of the blind-packed Transformers model kits and she gave me another of her duplicates. It was a cute little chibi Shockwave this time. The instruction card wasn't as good as what came with the bigger Wheeljack model but it was easy enough. Got him put together on my break and he's hanging out on my desk now. I've got him set just behind Wheeljack, the gag being that he's not really small, just very far away.

Idk, I appreciate that she gives me her cast-aways but this is kinda making me want to spend money, lol.

I did indeed go to the mini culture festival with my sister and her two littlest. It was fun! We got to hammer mochi :D By which I mean that I got to hammer mochi, since my nephew was too shy and my sister didn't want to hand me the baby just for that. The concert portion started a little late but the wait was worth it, imo. Still no snow or rain but it was a bit chilly for the littles, so we didn't stay for the whole performance and headed inside the museum where the other part of the event was being held.

There were only a few tables. One had a lady doing calligraphy; my sister got her name in katakana and I got neko (cat) in kanji because I panicked and it was the first thing I thought of. Nephew was again too shy to ask for anything. There was another area showing off traditional Japanese toys and my sister tried out a couple but nephew was unmoved, lol. We also got to try out a guitar-like instrument I've forgotten the name of and looked at a handful of handmade items for sale. Then we sat and had some mochi, red bean soup, sweet cake and matcha. I had hoped we'd get to see the matcha being prepared but alas. I really liked the presentation of the matcha, even if they were using cheap plastic dishes, but it tasted like grass to me as usual. Everything else was really tasty, though.

We didn't stay long-- it was a short event-- but we left feeling like it was worth the trip.

And just like that, we're through the first week of February. Somehow. Hasn't been the best start to the month for me but the rest of the month is still ahead. In the meantime, here's my weekly curriculum post.

We might be getting snow again??

Tbh, I'll be very surprised if we do. Up until now, they were saying that it's going to get a lot warmer starting this weekend, almost spring weather. I know these things can change, of course, but it already feels like there's been a big shift in the atmosphere. Schools were even open today! I only glanced at the weather map but the clouds looked to me like they're going to get caught in the mountains again. I don't guess it matters much anyway. The accompanying temperatures were all above freezing, so it wouldn't stick.

Assuming the weather minds its manners this weekend as I expect, I think I'll probably go to that event I got the reschedule notice about back when they first started calling for snow. Might catch a movie while I'm out, since the event is a short one. I've been curious about Iron Lung and the downtown theater added showtimes.

The book I started today has oddly small text and I hate it a lot. Like, it's only eighty-some pages this way as it is, bro. You can afford to go up to font size ten, I promise.

It's especially weird because I have another book from the same publisher in the same kind of format but with normal text. That one's only about a hundred pages, btw, so I'm doubling down on what I said above.

Nearly forgot Wip Wednesday!

I've got a couple of new people around since last time, I think, so as a refresher: Give me a word and I'll try to find it in my wips. If I do find it, I post an excerpt that includes it. If I don't find it (or if I do but the whim takes me), I have to write something using it-- but that something has to be part of a current wip, not something entirely new.

Last week, I got "reverse" as a prompt. I had sort of intended to write something to continue the last wip I posted but never got around to it. I do have one wip that uses it, though, so here's that excerpt:

Well, I was still nauseated when I woke up, enough so that I ended up calling out. I don't love to lose the PTO, especially with the weather situation still kinda touch and go, but I figured better safe than sorry. It's definitely just sinuses but if I ended up puking, which I felt at the time like I might, they only would've sent me home anyway. At least this I saved the cost of rides back and forth for the day.

Oh, yeah, did I tell you guys that I forgot to switch my default payment method for my ride apps, so I was overdrawing my account at least once a day for over a week? Over three hundred dollars in overdraft fees alone. Not a great look for me. I'm almost-- almost-- glad the weather stopped me from going out and potentially spending even more.
