Title: Partners Comments: This is the first fanfic I've
posted to a community in years. I love how Naruto’s gotten me all fanish like
a kid again *^^* Feel free to critique. Summary: Sakura tries to do something
nice for Kakashi that will also help get him out of Tsunade’s hair. Nothing
goes as planned and she ends up stuck with him longer than she’d imagined. For
those interested in exploring the Kakashi/Sakura dynamic without it getting
too out of character. Kakasaku …maybe? ^^;

Date: 2005-11-22 04:38 am (UTC)The attraction to the KakuSaku pairing, at least for me, has a lot to do with Kakashi’s extreme control over his emotions versus Sakura’s innocent freedom with her own. I think they’re complimentary in that they could help each other be able to enjoy life more fully. Also, I think he could find redemption with her after his failure to recognize Obito and Rin when he had the chance (though that could be argued about his whole relationship with Team 7).
And yeah, I don’t plan on them being an extreme Lolita couple… While, the age gap if obviously going to remain the same, I think it’ll matter less when she’s say, in her 20s.

Date: 2005-11-22 04:48 am (UTC)Re: I haven't read this yet, but...
Date: 2005-11-22 06:24 am (UTC)I've often entertained the idea that if he got involved with Sakura, romantically or otherwise, it would almost be as though he was getting a second chance with Rin. That could make for some great tension: Does Kakashi love Sakura because of who she is or because of what she represents? Ah, yes, the InuYasha conundrum.
I understand what you’re saying (despite my having never watched InuYasha). I enjoyed the Kakashi no Gaiden immensely, but I felt that the Obito and Rin characters were just not developed enough. I mean, I understand why (time/space constraints), but I still would have loved to see it happen. And from such yearnings, fan fiction is born! It will definitely be an issue I’ll be covering.
Although, I think we do see Kakashi repeating old patterns when he spent more time training Sasuke, who was closer to himself, than Sakura and Naruto, who were more like Obito and Rin.
It never occurred to me that it was something Kakashi had much choice in. In the way all friendships work, sometimes you just connect more with some people. For Sasuke and Kakashi, their backgrounds and attitudes run so parallel that Kakashi was the only one who understood Sasuke enough to have a good chance at helping him. I always wondered if Kakashi had opened up to Sasuke and told him more than the unconvincing/terribly vague statement, “We’re alike, I’ve lost everyone who was important to me too,” maybe his efforts would have struck home and done more good with the Uchiha.
As for Sakura feeling neglected, I don’t think it ever occurred to her because of self esteem issues; she probably didn’t feel her talents merited extra attention. Outside of the obvious reasons, she’s also a romantically fixated pre-teen who deals with constant rejection from the object of her infatuation. I do think it highly likely that the idea of her feeling jipped by him would occur eventually to an older, more confident Sakura. I mean, of course, being ignorant of the greater history involved, she would feel resentful if she ever took the time to think about it. The catch is, what would induce her to mind to travel down that not-very-nice-person path… and even more interesting, what kind of response would she get if she ever confronted Kakashi about it? But then again, you already said that. And that is why I officially love you! LoL
It wasn't until she went off with Tsunade that she became useful.
I dunno, I think she was useful all along, but just not to the same extent Naruto or Sasuke were. To me she was the most “Genin” out of the three of them. If you compare her to the rest of the rookie nine, her qualities seem equal to most (Ino, Shikimaru, Chouji, Hinata). It seems to me that she was initially disadvantaged because her talents didn’t have any immediately obvious use, and it didn’t become obvious for a long time because she never really even looked for it. She was always too much of a kid to do anything but entertain her own self pity. It took the whole series up till now for her to grow up enough to shift her focus from romance to defining her own strengths. Unlike Naruto or Sasuke, she never really suffered true hardship and that left her in some ways less mature than them. She was behind in learning how to overcome and grow from adversity.
And PS: Don't worry, your continued commentary is very welcome.

Date: 2005-11-23 12:09 am (UTC)To clear out some confusion, I was the one who did that KakaSaku piece, it wasn't from a Japanese fanart site. If you really did find it on a Japanese site, please tell me what site you found it on, because otherwise it is stolen. My signature in the bottom left is erased. The original text next to Kakashi and Sakura are erased. I even still have the original Photoshop file giving evidence that I did draw this, as well as the orignal pen and ink sketch on white cardstock paper.

My name is Kiyomi Kawasaki, and it's written in the bottom saying 川崎きよみ and Masashi Kishimoto's name next to it as credit. I drew this on September 30, 2004 and posted it on DeviantArt as my first completed piece, under the name "baseix" (like my old journal,
I can't see why anyone would do that to my work.

Date: 2005-11-23 01:30 am (UTC)As to why I would do that do that to your art, it is because simply, I thought it very good.
I am sorry about the misunderstanding and thank you for making such a lovely piece.
(Looking through my book marks, I wanted to add that if I am wrong about it being on a Japanese repository art site, I most likely found it here: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/art/ as I recall that is where I started off)

Date: 2005-11-23 06:25 pm (UTC)I mean, a mistake was made on my part; I acquiesced as soon as I found out, and was apologetic and as accommodating as possible. While I feel bad about disrespecting her efforts, at the same time it is kind of daunting having to deal with the finger pointing, the “art stealer!” the “You looooose!” comments. I realize I’m being a bit thin skinned about it, as they’re probably just a bunch really bored kids with nothing better to do. But I do still find it irritating on principal coming from a community that is involved in mass copy right infringement. Has permission been given to use Studio Pierrot’s/Masashi Kishimoto’s work for every LJ icon, layout, or mood theme? Obviously not. If that is being totally disregarded, why am I supposed to even care about the fanwork of some random person? Well, I do. I respect, as I said, the effort put into it; even if neither the characters nor their composition, apparently, are original works. I still don’t feel in the wrong for my intent of using a doujinshi image to spruce up the presentation of my fic to this community, especially when I never claimed to have created it myself and left on purpose what I believed to be the name of the creator intact.
Re: I haven't read this yet, but...
Date: 2005-11-23 06:47 pm (UTC)Hm. I always considered that because she wasn’t continuing in the chuunin exam, and so for the time being she didn’t need a crash course trainer. But then of course, the big shit hit the fan and we all know what happened then.
Sakura was the one who took the initiative and asked Tsunade herself for help. I know she did it out of concern for her friends, but she must have saw something within herself if she was gutsy enough to ask the Hokage to be her teacher. She must have somehow recognized her own potential.
I really do see that as the beginning of growth on her part. I mean, it was slowly coming along before, but her loss at the exam, the invasion of Konoha, and the departure of Sasuke, I think all acted as one huge catalyst.
Had Tsunade not been around, I wonder what she would have done.
0.o; That is the stuff fanfics are made of? ^^;
I once mused that maybe Kakashi doesn't know how to deal with women outside of his Icha Icha novels. He never had a normal childhood after all.
I totally agree that at some point Sakura will confront Kakashi about it, and depending on the situation, be outwardly irked about it. I would think he’d feel bad and terribly awkward in that situation. He would be put between a stone and a hard place; either he’d have to give in and actually talk about his history behind the decision, or just go along with her thinking poorly of him. Haha, I think he has intimacy/trust issues with all people in general, and his smut only warps that further.
