So, I've officialy read chapter 286. It was really funny XD

right. that's not the point of this post. i have a question.
after everything... naruto's still a genin right? and if he is... isn't there anyway for him to become one without having to go through the whole exam thing again? because that took so long >_< after all his training with jiraiya, he could be as strong as kakashi... who's a jonin...

Tsunade said something about how rank didn't matter anymore, but I don't know if that's going to stick...I would imagine that since she's in charge and she knows what Naruto's been up to (crazy training) it probably won't be much of a problem either way...

I don't think he's that strong considering that Kakashi sort of had to baby him while chasing down Deidara. Kakashi is still heads and shoulders above Naruto, but the gap is closing. the only one we've seen a lot of so far in terms of real fighting and new moves is Sakura. Naruto has yet to engage in a meaningful close-range battle yet.

Well, I would say rank doesn't really matter that much. After all, all it actually shows is that you took an exam. Of course, if you have the 'official' title, then it gives people a good idea of your level. But you don't have to take official exams to be good. Kisame, for example, doesn't seem to have taken any official qualifications after graduating.

However, it may be the case that you do have to have the official title to get officially ranked missions; the ones that clients pay for, as opposed to the sort of internal village business? I am not sure on this.

how did sakura get to chuunin then?
its possible that they joined teams together but i dont think they would do it that way.

in the chapter where we see how kakashi gets his sharingan they have different ranks in the squad. that makes me think they wouldnt seperate the teams

isnt it up to the hokages disgression anyway?
so tsunade could just go "OK naruto, you're good enough. You're a chuunin now"

I think it's pretty much Tsunade's choice (er, the Hokage's in general) to say whether or not someone goes up in rank or not.

Promotions definitely aren't up solely to the Hokage's discretion. She even said that there's some people she'd like to promote if she could, but you need a showing to the village elders in the chuunin exams.

I read an interesting point by someone before, I forgot who. Anywho, the point was that becoming a chuunin is more about diplomatic and foreign relations. It's a showcase of power and a way to balance with the other nations. Simply graduating Naruto would be stupid and counterproductive to the whole system.

i agree with you. i hate how people constantly see naruto as weak. so many people underestimate me. i dont understand why they dont see that he's actually strong. sure he loses his temper alot but that just makes him more powerful. naruto's downright frightening when he uses the power of the kyuubi. why cant people like kakashi see that? they respect sakura for her power, but not naruto. i cant wait to see what he looks like in battle after 2 and a half years training with jiraiya

I have been thinking about this alot too, and I believe it DOES make a differnce. Since Naruto is still considered a Genin that could cause tnesion with his peers and such. As long of these lines

'I am a Chuunin, therefore I am better than you.'

that's exactly what i was thinking. plus even though naruto's crazy strong, all of his peers seem to have greater respect for eachother because of the fact that they already are chuunin.

and with that in thought...how could naruto possibly find the time to enter the exam and become a chuunin? he really can't because he's so buisy with the new team kakashi, akatsuki, and sasuke and stuff. naruto can't become hokage if he's only a genin =[

Well, Naruto did say during his chuunin exam that even if he didn't pass he'd find a way to become Hokage as a genin.

But seriously, I doubt that he will ever become higher than a Genin unless they bend the rules and promote him straight to Jounin or to Hokage.

Well the real problem with Naruto is that he doesn't really know how to harness that energy very well. He might be powerful but tactically he's not as strong as the other characters, which was a big reason why he didn't make chuunin during the first exam. Plus, Sai puts everyone down XD and he's ANBU so it's expected that he looks down at Naruto even if he were chuunin. Also, all of the battles we've seen timejump Naruto in were either gainst people who would totally pwn his ass in ways that he was very weak in (Itachi and genjutsu) or in conditions that weren't very good for his type of fighting (long range with Deidara).

In those cases Kakashi did sort of take over because 1) Naruto can't take on Itachi alone, 2) Naruto doesn't work well with genjutsu, and 3) Naruto lacks the tatical strengths to fight a long range battle. Sakura, on the other hand, showcased her strengths because her battle with Sasori was much more her cup of tea (dodging, calculating, etc).

As of yet we still don't know what Naruto's real strength is. There are no new jutsus or any real indication of improvement aside from speed increase. He also did that wacky foxing-out but he had to be stopped because Jiraiya told him that Naruto couldn't handle that level of Kyuubizing. As for Kyuubi, Naruto doesn't control the chakra very well and it's really more of a brute strength thing when he uses it. Kyuubi works largely for shock value (surprises the opponent) and for brute force, but it seems that Naruto totally loses any tatical edge when he's under the influence. Plus, Kyuubi's advantage can be defeated as we saw with Kisame's chakra-eating sword thing...

I would assume that, at the start, she was paired up with Team 10 since they were one person down cause Shikamaru had already made Chuunin. Anything further than that, and I have not a clue.

I think that's referring to the chuunin exam process (especially the last part, where genins compete before audience), not to an individual becoming a chuunin.
Anyway, I agree with you in that simply promoting Naruto will not fulfill the political aspect.

Given Naruto's personality, he's not easily bossed around, as displayed in his defiance to Sandaime and Rokudaime regarding the missions he had been assigned.

I can see how delaying/denying Naruto's promotion will be beneficial to the village or to Naruto, but not because he'd be easier to control. The result of having Naruto participate in a chuunin exam could be disastrous; it's practically shouting, "Hey Akatsuki, we have out Kitsune right here, come and get him and destroy the village and kill our Hokage in the process!"
...See?

Another reason that Naruto's not going to be a chuunin anytime soon is, I think, his lack of control and leadership; remember that leadership was one of the important qualities of being a chuunin.

Though, I don't think Naruto's rank as a genin will affect the ranks of missions he'll be taking, as long as he's working in a team where there are other members with more sanity, rationale, and control. He won't be doing any more trash-picking or weed-pulling mission, I'm sure.

He could be, but skill alone does not qualify a ninja for rank promotion. There's other important stuff too, like planning, leadership, etc.
I'd say Naruto is rather lacking in stealth and rationale department. ^_^;
Even if he somehow becomes a chuunin, though, I don't think Kishimoto-san will give us another lengthy chuunin exam arc...be not afraid! (I personally think he'll go straight from genin to Hokage.)

yea naruto's a little on the loud/look at me! side. he blurts things out in the middle of nowhere and loses his temper all the time. yea i doubt kishimoto would have him take the exam again... but if he did it'd still be interesting in some way.
