How WELL is Naruto doing in the states? Is there a way to tell how good the American audience is responding to the series. I know that Hot Topic has started to sell a lot of the merchandise, but I want to know if there's enough hype in the states, and if everyone is watching every Saturday and stuff like that.

From what I heard Naruto is doing exceptionally well in the television ratings.

I went back to college after Thanksgiving break and when I came back three weeks later, she was a Narutard from watching cartoon network. She's only 8 so I guess it works the same for most other kids too.

hmmm I've been a narutard for a lot longer than it's been out in the states. I think it might be more popular with a younger audience. I'm 15 and sadly i don't know anyone my age or older who likes naruto personally *sobs* then there's me who's seen all of the anime, and read all of the manga and scanlations and stuff. so uh... i did however see one little kid in barnes and noble buying the first naruto manga because he liked the anime so much. who knows.

did any of that makes sense? probably not. *glooms*

I'm 15 and no one else likes Naruto around here. ;__; It sucks. And whenever I try to introduce someone of my age to it, they're like, "Oh. Isn't that a stupid kid's show on Cartoon Network?"

gahhhhhh me too >_<
even if you try to slowly introduce someone to it. like... even get them to read the manga... they're completely shut off to the idea of actually liking naruto.it's so unfair. naruto's amazing. i wish kids our age would understand... but i guess we're just too cool for them ^_^

believe me when I say that there are a lot of older people who watch Naruto. I'm 20 years old, and I've been watching it since my freshman year in college. Actually, the other four guys I room with in my apartment all watch Naruto too, and we're all 20 to 21. I even have a good friend who watches it and she's 25! So the older audiences definitely like Naruto as well.!!

well

i personally HATE the english dubbed version. Grated my teeth through one episode. I adore the japanese speaking one. didn't know it came out in america or in english much because my boyfriend introduced me to it, and we both prefer subbed japanese, we like the original better, not the edited shite they put on TV now. Especially cartoon network anime (i like some of the other shows >.>)

Naruto has a diverse age group. I love it, I`m 20. My sister likes it, shes 24. My mothers 43 and she loves it. ^.^

My daughter is 3mo and she laughs at it.. so she likes it (she'll only sit still for Naruto & Bugs bunny hehe)

If hot topics is selling it, it's probably got a higher rating in the punk/emo/goth/insterttheother'imnotaconformist'grouphere which is most likely the 'agnsty' 16+ group (I`m assuming.)

The biggest reason I say that, at a job interview they asked me "how do you keep with the latest trends" and once more i'm reminded its the same people who own icing/claires (and rumored- abercrombie and fitch) it's all about what's 'hip' amongst people in the younger age.

uhh.. so if that helps.

that's really nice to know ^_^ sometimes naruto seems like it really should be focussed more towards an older audience... but i guess it can reach out to all ages since they've gone and put it on cartoon network. naruto's amazing though, no matter who likes it, and who doesn't ^_^

gah i don't like the dubbed version either. i can't stand the voices and the way the americanized it. the true japanese dialougue always seems to be better.

I watch it every Saturday, but I can't wait for the original Japanese version comes out. I only watch it coz it's my dosage of Naruto-animé-ness, and I refuse to download coz it's illegal. *nod*. It also seems I like it more than most Naruto fans because I don't have the Japanese version to compare it to; only the manga.

...I also do not really want to buy anything Naruto-ish from Hot Topic soooo.

All I know is that one of my local grocers, which used to have Shonen Jump on its magazine racks, doesn't seem to have it anymore. Number of anime-related magazines (most of which mention Naruto in one way or another) have increased, though.
So that means that Shonen Jump is doing so incredibly well that was sold out the last time I checked it, or that Shonen Jump has very poor audience in my city. Certainly, any kind of free on-line distributions are not helping this...
