Seriously, in this political climate, taking things too seriously will actually kill you. And it will be rather painful.

That was a joke... but with the state of the world now a days, it might not be too much of an exaggeration.

South Africa is more progressive than the US... (gay marriage, a black president...)
Iraq has more women on the national legislature than the US... (33%)

But seriously, I take politics extremely seriously. I've devoted my life to political progressivism. But if you don't make fun of your livelihood every now and then, you'll either die because the stick up your ass punctured something important, or of a coronary at age 32.
But Jesus died at age 32, so it's OK.
