Revelation of Hidden Feelings
Rating:PG
Characters/Pairing:Naruto and Hinata
Genre:Soft Romance

Going home after rescuing Gaara from Akatsuki, Team Gai and Team Kakashi returned back to Konoha. On the way home, emotions were freely expressed on each and every one of them; Naruto being happy that Gaara is safe, Sakura feeling down because of Master Chiyo’s sacrificial death, Kakashi feeling severe pain, and everyone else, well, just right. Upon entering the village gates, the team was warmly welcomed by their friends, comrades and citizens. Among them were Iruka, Shino, Kiba, Shikamaru, Ino, and Chouji.

“Iruka-sensei, please bring Kakashi-sensei to the medical room, he’s been hurt pretty bad.”, Sakura asked. “Right. And by the way, welcome back. Especially to you, Naruto-kun.”, Iruka turned to Naruto’s direction and smiled.

Naruto smiled back. “All right, since we’re back home, I guess we’re free to do what we want for the time being. See you guys later!” All the rest except Naruto and Sakura went back to their dormitories and homes.

“Naruto, I’ve got to go back to Tsunade-sensei for my lecture, I’ll see you in a while.”, Sakura said. “Sure! See ya!”, Naruto was at his usual cheery mood.

Since Naruto just recently went back after his training, he decided to walk around, checking on almost everything he missed during the three years of departure. While walking, he heard a girl screech in fright. “Eh? What’s that sound?”, he looked back, searching where the sound came from.

A girl was hiding at a wall of an alley trembling in embarrassment. “N-Naruto-kun…! I know he had returned to the village…and I haven’t seen him for three years now…what would I tell him?” She was beginning to blush very furiously.

Naruto can sense someone from the alley. He went into the direction of the sound. He spotted a girl with long dark hair. He knew who she was even if he was away for quite a while. “Hinata-chan! Why are you hiding?” he was confused.

Hinata felt like she would faint. She was blushing a shade of crimson. She couldn’t say anything. And suddenly she collapsed and with quick reflexes, Naruto caught her. “Oh, why did you fall down, Hinata-chan?”

Hinata woke up, still blushing furiously. “N-Naruto-kun…” Naruto smiled and helped her stand up.

“Hinata-chan, I’m back.”

“Why were you hiding, Hinata-chan?”, Naruto asked. “Naruto-kun…it-it’s…” Hinata knows that she couldn’t hide her feelings from Naruto. “W-well…it’s that I…my feelings…I’m quite embarrassed to see you…b-because…” she was too shy to tell him her feelings.

Naruto nodded. He understood quite well what Hinata feels. “It’s okay. I understand.”

“Naruto-kun…thank you…” Hinata now felt confident that Naruto knew her feelings.

“Well then, I’ll be off, it’s nice meeting you again, Hinata-chan!”, Naruto walked back.

“Naruto-kun, wait! Where are you going?”

“Oh, I’ll just be walking around.”

“I’ll come with you!”

“Sure. And besides I’m quite bored today, so I’d rather have someone to talk to.” Naruto said.

While walking, they saw a park. They sat down on the swings and felt the chill of the breeze flowing. “Hinata-chan, I noticed you’ve grown your hair. It looks beautiful.”, Naruto uttered. Hinata smiled. “And I noticed you’ve grown so much.” They both laughed.

“I’ve grown stronger now and I’ve learned more jutsus this time. Well…it’s because Jiraiya told me I needed them for my safety…” Naruto explained.

“Me too…I’ve been a better ninja than before. Thanks to you, I’ve learned to believe in myself.”

With the sound of the swings screeching, they became quiet.

Looking around, Naruto noticed a lot of changes. Especially to his friends. Especially to Hinata. She has grown to be mature to take care of herself. But of course, he still needed to help her, after all, she has her own weaknesses.

Hinata now had the opportunity to reveal her true feelings toward him. She knew how much he has changed, but even he’s changed, he’s still the same Naruto who’s very cheerful and optimistic.

That was why she liked Naruto; because even though he’s in a state of hopelessness, he still manages to stand on both feet and continue on. And because he had always supported her throughout her tests. She remembered when people used to stay away from Naruto because they think he’s a monster, but she understood how he felt, how she wanted to let him know that someone’s ready to accept him. She remembered him telling her not to give up, and to believe in herself, and because of that, she succeeded to be a good ninja.

Her heart’s beating fast…she wanted to tell Naruto her feelings to set her heart free at last.

“N-Naruto-kun…”, she broke the silence. Naruto looked at her. “What is it?”, he asked. “It’s been a long time…since you left…actually I was a bit sad because you weren’t around…but I was still filled with hope that you’d come back someday…and that I’ve got feelings I’ve been hiding for three years now…and now that you’re back…I wanted to say that…I…”, she was already blushing.

“What feelings? Go on…don’t be shy…it’s better to express them rather than to hide, isn’t it?”, he gave her a grin.

“Naruto-kun…I…think I…I like you!”, Hinata blushed so hard this time. She looked down on the ground, she couldn’t look at Naruto in the face because of embarrassment.

Naruto came to a halt. Hinata was worried because he suddenly stopped. Naruto stood up, walked in front of her and placed a hand on her shoulder, saying, “Hinata-chan…thanks…come on now, don’t look down…you know…I’ve wanted to tell you that as well…of course I like you too…because you gave me strength…you gave me support...why would I not like you because of what you did?”

Hinata was surprised. She couldn’t believe what she just heard from him. She stood up and embraced him. “Naruto-kun! I’m so glad you understood! Thanks…”, she cried. Naruto hugged her back. “Sure…anytime…”

They broke the embrace and sat down on a nearby bench, looking over at the wonderful sun of the afternoon. With everything settled, Hinata finally set her heart free; no more furious blushes every time Naruto’s around, no more feeling of embarrassment, and no more fainting. As for Naruto, he has still a mission to fulfill, but because of Hinata’s support, he cannot lose hope, and the burden on him has lessened.

At the end of every man’s burden, there will always be someone who’ll save you. For hope to spring eternal.
