Question about Kakashi's mask

For a Sakumo & young Kakashi drawing I've been planning. ^^;

When do you think Kakashi started wearing his mask? Was it after his father's death or was it a Hatake tradition or something?

I kinda think he did it after his father killed himself, perhaps as a way to put a barrier between himself and everyone else, something to hide behind, along with his strict adherence to the rules. But since we've never seen Sakumo's face, only his back, we don't really know, ne? Perhaps he did wear one too. :x

Well, since Chiyo mistook him for his father without making any mention of the mask, I would assume his father wore one as well.

I'm not sure when he started wearing it, but it might not have anything to do with his father's death and it might be something broader than tradition. I've seen other shinobi masked in the same manner in the episodes of the Suna/Sound invasion, where loads of Konoha shinobi were shown.

Overall, maybe they mask themselves for the same reason why the Anbu mask themselves - or something to that extent...

I always thought it was a Hatake family tradition, yeah. I would assume Kakashi started wearing it when he entered the academy, or maybe earlier.

I go for the tradition too. As in something they're finally allowed to wear when they graduate from the academy.
