Some Speculation

I was just wondering...

Am I the only person that thinks Sasuke is going to be, for lack of a better term, owned by Itachi when they meet up again?

And this isn't at all based on the fighting strength of the two characters, we're aware that both of them are pretty powerful by now. I think that Sasuke will lose again because he's in for one of Kishimoto's Major Moral Lessons. And I'm pretty sure that it'll be something along the lines of "No matter how far you go to achieve your goals, you can't expect to truly succeed if you abandon your friends."

I mean, yay for Emo-boy if he even manages to lay a scratch on Weasel-nii-chan, but there's really no lesson for Sasuke if he succeeds by abandoning everyone. That's not a shounen hero-story type of resolution, right?

It would be so funny if Sasuke were to criticaly injure Itachi, and as Itachi died, he told Sasuke he didn't kill the clan....I know he did, but I'd love that....All Sasukes' emo-ing to be a complete waste.

Psh, yeah. I really can't see Sasuke winning against Weasel-kun, not even after being all snakeified and and powered up after training woth Oro. Because that is so not Kishi's style, nor is it, as you said a shounen series-sort of ending to that storyline.
...Also it would just suck. XP

Sasuke is obviously not going to defeat Itachi until he attains some kind of really silly Sharingan of LOVE gained through whatever the opposite of killing one's best friend is. Or something.

I concur with most of what you've said =) Even if he is under Orochimaru's.. care, that's not really what Orochimaru wants. He just wants Sasuke's body. Maybe through Orochimaru Sasuke could end up defeating Itachi, but it still wouldn't be him defeating Itachi. It would be Orochimaru. I don't think Sasuke even realizes that. I love how emotions cloud over rational thought ♥

I'm thinking that's how it might play out if Naruto and co don't end up bringing Sasuke back this time.

*cough* Crack aside, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be something angsty with Sasuke realizing that he'd been stupid in his quest for power and convert back to the Church of Uzumaki Naruto for Latter Day Emos. The power of Naruto compels you!

Besides which goodness only knows what Sasuke would actually do if he managed to kill Itachi. I think he's sort of forgotten about that whole reviving his clan bit, you know? o_o' Maybe he thinks Konoha will want him back in his warped little duckarsed brain. Who knows.

Which is why he will have to use the power of GOODNESS AND LOVE to defeat Itachi in the end, because that way not only will the overarching themes of the story be vindicated, he'll have something to live for when he's done rather than just ... I don't know, shutting down and dying on the spot, or disappearing into the woods to live the life of a treedwelling squirrelman.

on another note; anyone who remembers that Oro-kun once said himself that he was nowhere even close to Ita-chan's power? ...i wonder if he ever told Sasu-chan that or if he left that little detail out?

bet he made poor emo-boy think that he was about to give the super-snake-power of a life time, only to be able to use said snakes on Sasu-chan in innapropriate ways later. our poor little pretty-boy... T.T

Urg! I think I'd stop reading Naruto if Sasuke beat Itachi the next time. (without any help from Naruto) Seriously. I don't like the guy and I don't think that either he nor Orochimaru would be able to beat Itachi. The only one who could stand close to a chance is Naruto and we don't know much about him now. O.o (can you tell who my favorite charcter is? XD)
