My friend is rewatching the Chuunin Exams, and something caught his eye. He said that in episode 36, Kabuto's eye turns red, and then in episode 38 he says something about 'the old blood' in him awakening. Sasuke also notices the red eye and that Kabuto is something other than what he seems.

I totally don't remember any of this. Anyone got any clarification?

XD And now that you mention it, I do remember that, though it took me a minute of thinking. I wonder if whatever that was about is still on Kishi-sama's list of things to explain? Or was it some random idea he dropped later? =/ The fandom may never know.

I heard a theory that it's just his bloodline, the er.. Yakushi clan? Someone was going on about possible abilities to heal quicker or some such. Examples of his great healing and other medical skills are seen like in the Sannin fight, and when Naruto's Rasengan kinda.. went through 'im. -shrug-

And that, my friend, is unofficial ramble that I just said. >>; I'm sure Masashi has plans for Kabuto, but don't trust what I say..

The "old blood" has been proven to be a mistranslation/misconception and was probably just referring to the fact that he is not loyal to Konoha. The red eye, however, has yet to be explained...

I had heard theories that perhaps Kabuto had a tailed demon inside of him just like naruto. For one thing he heals fast... "old blood" and ya know he comes ni handy to orochi a lot. his eyes go red kinda like naruto's physical appearacne chanegs when he goes kyuubi crazy.

If that's true, then the translation in the manga is subject to speculation. I remember that line being there in the manga. I'm not talking about fan translations either. Not that this could mean anything, but I just thought I would point that out.

There is a theory that Kabuto is the carrier or the 8 tails, which, according to the legend, is the demon that is supposed to fight the 9 tails--it also happens to be a snake demon & of course that syncs up w. the whole Oro/Sound thing. But that is just a theory.

Wurl, dubious though the 'old blood' thing might be ... there's still something very definitely up with his eye there o_O And, indeed, if it's idiomatic ... he could well be using it in a dual-meaning sort of sense ... because ... come on, it's Kabuto. He would. He's, like, made of uncertainty.

I reckon the healing thing he's got going on is possibly linked to some kind of bloodline limit, but there's no way of knowing. We know very little about Kabuto – or at least, only enough to really highlight what we don't know. He needs some flashbacks, man.

Or rather, I need him to have some flashbacks ... >_>

Maybe he has high blood pressure which erupts and gives him redeye when he gets pissed? He's pretty laid back after all, if he did get all Hulk when he's angry, we wouldn't see it much. At least, that's what it looks like to me. I'd personally prefer Kabuto to have no bloodline/bijuu, because he's crazy scary enough as it is.

Yeah, a good theory, but the only big hole in it would be Akatsuki. If that were true, why didn't they try to take his demon before he left with Orochimaru?
