SO! I've been hearing lots of people say that Kishimoto said that Sasuke is his favorite character. On the other hand, there are people who said that Kishimoto said that Sasuke's his favorite character to draw. I just want to clear this up once and for all, so does anyone know where we can find a copy of the interview where Kishimoto stated Sasuke was his favorite.... Anyone??



...And on a completely random note, I noticed that Kishimoto changed something in ch 286 that wasn't in Weekly Jump.



The one that was featured in Weekly Jump has this.

Yet in Volume 32, Naruto's wearing his phallic necklace.

Naruto is supposed to wear the necklace all the time (even when he's naked ♥) I guess Kishimoto realized that he forgot it and just edited in? I don't know.. :O

I don't have the interview with me right now but he said Sasuke is his favourite character to draw because Sasuke was more difficult for him (since he is a 12-year-old but has a more serious/grown-up looking face than others).

As for Sasuke...I only really recall Kishimoto stating that in volume 2 Sasuke was his favorite character to draw, but nothing about stating who was his favorite character. I get an inkling it might be Naruto, though.

Well, in the viz translation, in volume 3 it says:

"Keeping the visual consistently right makes him the character who takes the most work and energy from me. Maybe that's why he's become my favorite character."

*shrugs* Take what you want from that. It could be interpreted either way >.o

However, I don't think its possible for Sasuke to not be one of Kishimoto-san's favorites. He's made Sasuke's story so involved and so integral to the plot @.@ I don't think anyone would do that with a character they don't enjoy.

In a recent interview with the American division of Shonen Jump, Kishimoto said he identifies most with Naruto. That's all I got.

Naruto's phallic necklace is made more fitting by what else is going on in that scene.

Those changes between the magazines and mangas are normal. The mangakas have to meet their deadlines for the magazines constantly, so often times they rushed. When the chapters are about to be compiled into actual manga volume, they tend to go back to add some details to their drawings (I've even seen dialogues or narratives edited out and replaced in some other series, but I'm not sure if this ever happened in Naruto).

One thing that continually troubles me about the whole "Sasuke's his favorite thing!" is as far as I can tell, any interview that even HINTS that to be true is very early on... before Sasuke turned bastard (Sorry to the Sasuke lovers. I don't hate him myself, but you have to admit it's true.) Naruto's a long series, and it's a bit presumptuous for people to say that just because Sasuke was once Kishimoto's favorite (if he indeed was) that he STILL IS. For all we know, Deidara's now Kishimoto's favorite and he's going to take over the manga! ;)
