Okay. Since it's Itachi's birthday, I started thinking about eyes and eyesight, and my brain sort of meandered off in another direction...

If Kabuto is such an amazing medic, it stands to reason he'd be able to fix his eyes, doesn't it??? XDDDDD Unless...he...has some sort of glasses complex ("I'm not sexy without my glasses!!" etc, etc). What do y'all think? *grin*

OH, and, here's an Itachi quick!!humorfic for those interested:

Kung Pow FAKECUT!!

Glasses act as a sort of mask - something getting in the way of the view to the 'windows of the soul'. I've always thought of them as more symbolic than anything else.

Plus, you know, he's a total nerd. XD And glasses are a sign of intelligence and Kabuto is very clever.

Kabuto is more than sexy enough without his glasses, but with them... *dies of joy* Kabuto is the sexiest character in Naruto in my opinion, after all. X3

And that glint his glasses have? Very evil. XD

I'm quite, quite certain that Kabuto has perfect vision.

If he wears these great big silly glasses, people are mostly going to think he's an incompetent dork. Which works in his favour when the time comes to kill them ded. And I expect when he was small and not yet so good at concealing what he was thinking, they were extra handy for obscuring his facial expressions.

I read a fic once where they pointed out the fact that they're useful in a fight because they can mislead people into formulating pointless strategies based around the idea that without them he can't see properly and that he has poor peripheral vision ... can't remember where it was or who wrote it, though.

He doesn't need to wear them when he's just puttering around the lair of evil, of course, where there's no-one to deceive ... but I 'spect it helps to wear them all the time just to make sure it always feels natural to wear them when he needs to.

... that and Orochimaru probably told him they look good.

Now that sounds like something I'd put in a fic. XD

Myopia (or being farsighted, who knows) isn't a condition that's curable (except through surgery, now). What happens is that the eye itself warps so that the light coming in through the pupil falls before or after the retina, causing blurriness. That's not something that's healable, unless you go and you squish your cornea or eyeball around, so what glasses do is provide a second lens to focus the light rays in the right spot so that the image falls right on the retina.

It's very possible that he's got impaired vision, but from the thickness of his glasses I would say that it's only a diopter or two, and that really wouldn't impair his vision much. It's just less stress on the eye.
