Title: I worry about you.
Authoress: Rozekage
Rating: K/G
Genre: Romance/Comedy
Summary: 18 year old Neji is out alone on a mission while Tenten is stuck taking care of Lee and Gai, worrying about him. What happens when Lee and Gai catch on to her "worry"? NejiTen, one-sided LeeSaku.
"Tenten, do not worry! Neji is a most excellent shinobi and will not have any problems making it back." A ping of light glistened off the teeth of the older taijutsu master as he smiled towards his student.
"Yes, he will be fine. Besides, Neji-san is not due back for another hour. Please stop pacing Tenten-san." Lee readjusted his legs on the ottoman in front of him, and focused on the falling rain instead of the almost-annoying pacing of his teammate.
"Exactly! He's not supposed to be back for an hour, which means he's out there in this rain, and lightning, and thunder, and--"
"He is in the springtime of his youth! Rain and lightning are things you should embrace while you are still young enough to--"
"Then why aren't you and Lee outside?"
"My legs."
"My back."
Tenten turned her attention away from her companions, focusing on the gates to the small village they had been assigned to help. "Argh... These two never worry about anything. They're too relaxed and carefree sometimes. How can they not worry about Neji with the weather like this?!"
"You know Tenten-san, I have noticed that you always seem to worry too much when Neji-san is out alone. Do you not think he is capable of completing a mission on his own?" Brown hair bobbed around as the kunoichi quickly turned to make eye contact with the younger taijutsu master.
"N-no! That's not it! That's not it at all!! I know Neji's strong. He's smart. He's a genius. I'm just...I'm just worried about the weather."
Laughter rose from the third member of the room. He sat forward, bringing his smiling face closer to his two students.
"No type of weather can stand in the way of a man in his springtime of youth!"
"You two just don't understand." Frustrated-ly worried arms crossed the chest of the weapons mistress as she turned to gaze out the window.
"I see..." Gai-sensei relaxed back against his chair, a hand moving to hold his chin. "You're very worried."
"Yes."
"About Neji's safety."
"Yes."
"Our strong Neji."
"Yes."
"Our smart Neji."
"Yes."
"Our genius Neji."
"Yes."
"Our handsome Neji."
"Ye-- Gai-sensei!!!" Brown locked with black as Tenten turned her back to the window once again, blush and anger rising to her face.
"Hohoho! I understand completely!!! You are worried about Neji."
This time it was Lee that sat forward some, his eyes widening at the true meaning of his sensei's words. "You are worried about Neji-san?"
Confusion crossed the face of the kunoichi. "Um, duh! Why do you think I was pacing...?" "Yes, very worried."
Lee sat back, a look of deep thought and rejection across his face. "I see... So you...you worry about Neji."
"Tenten, I'm sure he worries about you too. Don't worry!"
"Um, what are you talking about? He has no reason to worry about me right now. I'm here with you two." "And what's with their sudden focus on worrying? I've been worried this whole time. Did they just catch onto that or something?"
"Here with the two of us? What does that have to do with him worrying about you? ...wait! I see what you mean! This is not good. Not good at all." Gai-sensei suddenly sprang to his feet, heading towards the door.
"What's not--where are you--?" Before she could move to stop her sensei a wrap-covered hand grabbed at her arm, begging for her attention.
"Tenten-san, do you think that, maybe someone might worry about me?"
"Lee, I'm sure there are lots of people that worry about you. But right now we have to stop--"
"Even...Sakura-san?"
"Of course. I'm sure she worries about you too. We need to stop Gai-sensei. He shouldn't me moving too much with his back like that." Tenten moved to follow after her sensei, but was once again stopped by the wrap-covered hand.
"Tenten-san." The sudden serious tone of Lee's voice brought Tenten to face him. "Tenten-san, I'm sure Neji worries about you too. He just has a hard time letting you know."
"Lee..." "What is he talking about?"
"Come on! Let's find Gai-sensei!!" An overly enthusiastic Lee pulled his very confused and worried teammate out the door in search of their sensei.
----------------------------------------------------
One hour later
It was wet. Everywhere was wet. Water just wouldn't stop falling from the sky and there was nothing the young Hyuga could do about it.
"At least I'm finally back. This rain doesn't look like it will be stopping anytime soon. If I would have decided to wait it out, I would still be a day away." Neji moved through the gates of the small village and made his way to the inn.
A trail of droplets formed on the floor behind him as he made his way to their room. Exhausted, cold, and hungry; all he wanted to do was shower, get something to eat, and sleep. Rain water collected under him as he stopped outside the door, reaching to open it. Before his hand even touched the doorknob, two smiling faces appeared in its place.
"Neji-san, welcome back!!!"
"Why are you two so happy to see me? And why are you up? I thought you were too injured to--"
"Neji! It's Tenten."
The annoyed expression on Neji's face instantly faded into one of angry-concern. "What happened to Tenten, Gai-sensei?" "Something seems very wrong with these two...more wrong than usual."
"Come in and dry off. We will explain. You should change too! Lee and I were certain you would not allow something as harmless as the rain to keep you from returning on time. We knew you would be soaked. So we took the liberty of purchasing you a change of clothes."
Neji didn't move. "Those two...bought me clothes? Where is Tenten?!" "I still have an extra pair I left here."
Lee pulled on Neji, forcing him to enter their room. "No, your outfit is gone too."
"Gone too? What do you mean?"
Gai-sensei assisted Lee in dragging Neji into the room. "Here. Shower and change quickly. Then...Tenten."
"Wait, what about--" Neji was cutoff by the bathroom door shutting in his face. "There is something seriously wrong here. I need to find Tenten. There's only one way out of this bathroom though, and I doubt those two will allow me to leave without giving into their demand of a shower and change of...clothes?" Neji held up the clothes that had supposedly been chosen by the green-spandex-wearing taijutsu masters. They was nice. Very nice. In fact, he secretly wanted to try them on.
Several minutes later a very clean and handsome Neji exited the bathroom dressed in a green kimono and dark brown hakama.
”Excellent! You look very handsome Neji. It almost brings me to tears to see my student looking so--”
”Gai-sensei, where is Tenten?”
Devilish smiles crossed the taijutsu maters’ faces. “Are you worried about her, Neji-san?”
”Where is she?”
”Our beautiful Tenten is in another room. I did not want you to become jealous of her spending so much time alone with Lee and me.”
”Jealous of her having to be alone with you two? Nope.” “If she is alright, then why are you making such a fuss about—“
”Neji-san, that is just it! She is not alright. Come with us. We will explain on the way.”
”Fine.” All three jounin exited the room, heading towards the stairs.
”Neji, she was very worried about you.”
”Ok…”
”Yes, Tenten-san paced back and forth for hours…worrying about you.”
”And she’s now upstairs because…?”
”When we noticed how much she truly worries about you, we could not sit by and allow such a youthfully precious kunoichi go without her worry being returned.”
”I have no idea what they’re talking about…” “So what did you two do?”
Lee stopped outside the door to a corner room on the top floor of the inn they were staying in. “It is only right that those that worry about each other should confess their worry. Do not you agree?”
”Confess their worry?! What does that even mean?” “Look, I’m getting tired of this stupid game and your mind-numbing riddles. Where is Tenten, and what’s going on with you two?”
”So it’s true. Two of my students do worry about each other. Ah, the sweet worry of youth! Lee.”
”Yes, Gai-sensei?"
”Open the door.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
”I don’t care which one of them comes in first. I’m going to break their legs and cut off their arms. How dare they do something like this?! …Stealing my only pair of clean clothes after dumping mud on me…Locking me weaponless in this room…Chaining my leg to this post… I swear Gai-sensei and Lee are going to need more healing than even Tsunade-sama would ever be able to provide when I’m done with them.”
The sound of metal shifting brought Tenten’s attention to the door. Her weight shifted, bringing her to stand. Bare feet pressed tensely against the cold wood, ready to attack. “Finally, they’re here.” She moved her dangling hair behind her shoulders and readied herself.
A crack of light entered the dimly lit room as the door began to open. Without hesitation, the weapons mistress rushed towards the door, hoping to incapacitate the intruder, only to be stopped short of the entranceway by the chain around her ankle. She began to fall. Anger faded to surprise as her view of the door changed to that of the floor below her. Brown locks twisted wildly, trailing behind her falling body. Her eyes, widened in the surprise of the fall, closed tightly in preparation for the inevitable impact.
It never came. Seconds passed. Her scrunched face slowly loosened to find green cloth impeding her view of the floor, and strong arms preventing any further falling.
”Tenten? What’s—“
”NEJI!!” Her tearing face pushed against his chest as her arms brought the green clothed man closer. “I’m so glad you’re back. I’m so glad you’re here. Please…please make them leave me alone!!!!”
”What the heck did you two—? ” Before he could turn his head to glare at the two in question, the door to the room slid shut, protecting the taijutsu duo from the angered Hyuga. “Tenten, what’s going on? Why are you chained up in here?” Neji moved his red-faced companion off of him and positioned himself near her ankles.
”I was worried about you traveling in this weather. They kept giving me reasons not to worry, and then they suddenly started talking about youthful worry as if they had just realized I was worried. Before I knew it, Gai-sensei had gotten another room, Lee was throwing mud at me, and I ended up being forced into this outfit and chained in this room.” Tenten watched as Neji expertly broke the hinges of the shackle with his chakra, freeing her from the post. “Thank you.”
”All of this just because you were worried? What’s wrong with those two?” Neji stood and adjusted his slightly twisted outfit. Offering a hand to Tenten he finally took in her and her outfit. “Where did they get this outfit?” “You look really nice with your hair down…”
Tenten let him pull her to her feet, blushing in embarrassment at his comment. “Does…does it look ok?
”Hm? On you? Yes.” Keeping his expression neutral, Neji moved towards the only piece of furniture in the room, a king-sized bed. “Were you really so worried about me?”
”I-I um, it was raining so hard, and I was afraid you’d get stuck where you were, or stranded somewhere. Or you might have gotten a cold from traveling in that weather.”
Neji sat down and watched as Tenten moved to be beside him. “I traveled under tree cover for most of the way. It wasn’t that bad. It was just rain.”
”Well, I’m glad you’re here. I don’t have to be alone with those two anymore…”
”Tenten?”
”Hm?” Tenten locked eyes with Neji.
”Thank you for worrying about me.”
Blush covered her cheeks. “I…I just—“
"I was worried about you too.”
Tenten couldn't help but smile at his words while gently resting her head on his shoulder.
"Gai-sensei! That was so beautiful!"
"Yes, Lee, the confession of love is one of the most beautiful things such youthful shinobi can share with the world."
"I cannot wait to share mine!!"
"That will be my proudest day...when all my students have found true happiness."
END.

A/N: Ok, maybe I made Gai and Lee a little too crazy in this. Maybe I made Neji and Tenten a little too irritated with them. I don’t care though. I wrote most of this at 2am this morning, and just got around to finishing it this afternoon. :) Having Gai and Lee talk about worrying for someone as if it were loving someone was really fun to write. Hope you enjoyed this!
