Genshipping survey! PLEASE VOTE, CHUUNIN.

I was looking through the comments on the OTP survey (crediting illeatchu here~) and I noticed a comment by hieronymousb that said, "The interaction I love between Naruto and Gaara, in my head, is rather gen, so I feel a little disingenuous calling that a "pairing" I love. But I'm still quite fond of their . . . shall we say, dynamic. XD;"

I myself feel the same way about the dynamics between certain characters. While I'm not really a fan of romantic pairings, I love genshipping and want to make a similar survey of my own.

SO, chuunin, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVOURITE GENSHIPS? You can also use your OTP for this as well, as long as you still like the pairing without the sex! I know that many people like more than just the sexual aspects of their OTP, or maybe you have another favourite if we're talking strictly gen. It works both ways, really.

How to cast your vote:

1. Leave a comment with your NUMBER ONE genship as the subject.
2. In the comment body, be sure to say what is your second and third favourite genship if you have any. You don't have to do this, but...one is kind of limiting in a series like Naruto that has so many interesting character interactions. So I'm adding this since most people will have runner ups, I think.
3. PLEASE limit your selections to the dynamics between two characters. For example: Naruto/Sasuke is allowed, whereas Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura is not.

I'll tally the results and post them in a few days as well! First place gets three points, second place gets two points, third place gets one point.

Definitely. I absolutely adore their dynamic so much. Dominant/submissive relationships are the ones I often become really attached to and fascinated by. Which...is probably really obvious since my favourites are Zabuza/Haku and Orochimaru/Kimimaro. XDD.

I definitely understand what you're saying about Naruto. Personally, I genship Naruto with multiple people, but there are certain characters that I can't see in strong relationships that don't involve sex. Y hallo thar, Sai.

Oh, God. I have so many. I genship a lot of things, because there are so many relationships in Naruto that I adore but that I have difficulty conceiving as romantic in the traditional sense of the word.

Like, I love Sasori and Deidara, but I somehow really, really can't imagine sex between them? And I love Naruto and Gaara, but I love the idea of them sitting outside and talking or helping one another understand the world. And I love Naruto's love for Sasuke and their whole dynamic, but again, I somehow can't imagine SasuNaru as a full-on pairingpairing the way most of fandom does.

oh god that was so hard to choose. but i really liked how lee and gaara interacted with each other. from the first time they fought during the chuunin exams to when they fought kimmimaro. but then lee was totally ooc when they had to rescue gaara. hum. whatever.

I'm glad to meet someone who sees eye to eye with me about SasoDei. I love SasoDei, but I rarely read the pairing because it's usually written as fluff (which I don't see between those two) or else a full-on relationship, with shippy qualities down to and including sex, and neither of those possibilities strike my fancy.

I like Sasori and Deidara (and probably Kakuzu and Hidan, as well) to have a sort of grudging dynamic, like with Sasori being all, "Well, he's my team-mate and he annoys the hell out of me, and half the time I want to kill the stupid douche myself, but I guess I'll fight by his side and defend him in battle, since I'm stuck with the guy." They seem like they'd argue and annoy each other, but still ultimately get some weird psychological gratification out of their arguing (because, y'know, it's the only companionship they'll ever get). So, not really a pairing, but an interesting dynamic.

I guess it's just, with the way Naruto is written and the kinds of relationships we see canonically, it's hard for me to imagine most of them being in full-on "dating/cuddling/sexing it up" relationships; their lives and personalities don't seem to go too easily with that, and I don't know, for whatever reason, sex just doesn't interest me, anyway. Nor most of those other traditional-pairing elements.

They need to appear together again before the manga finishes its run. It needs more Gai and his team, period, but I can settle for just Gai--he's so enthusiastic about everything, and it's such a fun contrast with Kakashi.

Wow, seriously? I loved (still love) Naruto's ability to reach out to Gaara, and what the two of them give to one another. NaruGaa was my oldest Naruto OTP and still remains something I care deeply about, even if my present focus is more on characters who are currently active in canon (sorry, Gaara; I still adore the guy and all).

This post is making me quite happy. It's nice to see that others were also touched by the camaraderie between Naruto and Gaara.

Sasuke/Naruto

The fact that there is a separate expression for shipping and general shipping feels weird for me (because I'm weird, apparently). Above all, I _always_ ship a pairing in the (well, I didn't know it had a unique name) "general" way or what, sexuality (if there is) only some detachable add on for me. There are times, with hot blooded pairings, of course, when it's stronger, but it's definately not the case here for me.

The relationship I treasue the most in Naruto (or the one thing overall I treasure the most to be exact) is Sasuke's and Naruto's relationship. I consider them soul mates, two people who are unable to properly function without the other one, and I honestly don't care what "level" they reach. Even if they got involved in a (classic) romantic way with each other, I think it would take ages for them to come to terms with it. I don't even care if they got paired up with someone else (though it should be logical at least), I just want them to stay the most important person in the other's life, I want them to be together - side by side, supporting, challenging each other. Each chapter where they don't meet makes me rip my hair out in anguish.
So, that's it for me.

Relationship-wise, more would be... Well I'd choose Sakura/Naruto+Sasuke (as the motherly looking after sillies), but I can't so let there be some random vote for...

2) Sakura/Sai because it has such an enormous potential, a relationship that could make both of them develop for the better.

3) Shikamaru/Temari they are my strongest het ship, but I love any kind of interaction they have.

THIS. Christ, some fangirls will do anything to characters in order to get their "seme/uke" fix. I hate seme/uke stereotypes SO MUCH because of this.
