back everyone ignored? Yeah, it's a super-long interview with Kishimoto.

K: Yes. There's magic-users, fighters, and so on, and everyone can put their roles together and everyone works for the team. I find that interesting. That is how characters rise.

That was fascinating. Flashy clothes for villains, eh. Explains Akatsuki being all subtle and lurky in their enormous hats and easily idenifiable coats....not that anyone is really going to bother them...:P I am also delighted to hear Kishimoto sensei say that the villains are *not* necessarily 'evil' but are defined as people whose goals are in opposition to those of the 'heroes'. ^^

Firstly, projectile weapons such as guns aren't allowed. (The one exception
is Inari's bowgun.) Guns aren't suited to ninja. Gunpowder is used in the anime,
though I don't think it should be there. And, vehicles such as aeroplanes are
not allowed. I try to restrain technology that can be used for war... For example, if missiles were in it, it'd be the end. (laughs)

That's really interesting. I've been wondering about what kind of technology the Naruto world has. I mean they don't have guns, cars, but they do have wireless communication. I guess Kishimoto's explanation explains why he had to limit some weapons and tech. In terms of gunpowder, I know he was talking about the movie (right?). To tell you the truth, I try not to even acknowledge the anime as canon since there are so many cuts and changes.

Just a thought though...do you think they would have t.v's and hell, karaeoke bars in the Naruto world?

Thanks so much for translating it. And my favorite part was when he said something along the lines of gunpowder being used in the anime which isn't supposed to be there, because it clearly proves how he's got little-to-no say in the goings-on of the anime episodes (particularly fillers), despite the fact that he's the series' creator.

Wow, that was something. I had been thinking that Konoha probably looks a lot like Kishimoto-sama's hometown, so that was interesting. Thank you for translating and posting this, it was very informative.
