Hey y'all.  I was wondering if some people could do me a favor.  I'm a new self-teaching artist w. no talent and I'm looking for some pointers on a sketch I just did.  It was the first time I've attempted doing a body and it pretty much sucks.  I was hoping someone could help me out on some things to correct and also give me pointers on what to colour and more importantly outline things with.

Thanks ya'll.

Here's the link:  Iruka

Thanks again.

For someone with no talent, you are pretty good. Don't talk down on yourself ^_^

I'm not that great at drawing, but I can point out a few things. For one, his arms seem a bit on the scrawny side, compared to his torso. His torso also seems a bit on the thick side, as well, like he's one block. His legs are good, though I'm not sure where that one foot is going... it's kind of awkward how he's sitting.

Otherwise, you have a fair sense of proportion =) Coloring, you just need to remember one light source and stick with it!

I'd definitely say the one in the foreground is too scary, though the one in the background, the wrist doesn't seem to connect to the hand at the right angle. I suggest you go to Manga School and poke around the tutorials - they have some good ones on body form, last time I checked, and how to draw an image from the skeleton up. I always suggest using a base instead of just drawing it. Helps with the proportions.

Do you have a pic of said reference?

To outline, I'd say use a waterproof inking pen.

The only thing I see here are the arms. They are quite thin. Other than that, I dig it.

while anime styled artwork is all well and good, keep in mind that this is a stylization of a core work (which would be realism).Sure I can sit here and say, "doesnt look too bad but, *insert critique of small area here*", but am I really helping in the long run? No. Your not really learning how to fix the problem, you just know there's a problem. As a college student who loves anime and is going to the art institute here in Sanfrancisco, the best advice you can get concerning your artistic strenghts/weaknesses is go to a life drawing class, buy some anatomy books, take pictures of real people. Learn the backwards and forwards of the real human form. ANY artist or teacher will tell you that you need to solidify your talents in the basics before you can truly shine as an anime artist.
best of luck
