my chakra sense is tingling!

Something has been bothering me pretty badly, and I really can't be one hundred percent sure that I'm right. I've been seeing this a lot recently in some RPs and in a few fanfictions.

We all know that when Naruto's kyuubi overtakes him, others can notice the change in his chakra. Or perhaps I should say, others notice that this chakra is much different than what they would expect Naruto's to be, since it is so powerful.

Now, aside from these instances when the other shinobi gasp at the change and the power from the kyuubi's chakra, are there ANY other instances of shinobi sensing another shinobi's chakra? I want to say no. I am aware that there have been times when someone's chakra is manifesting itself (aka it's visible to the naked eye), and those nearby can sense the power behind it... But sensing another person by sensing their chakra?

To me, this seems like an old Dragonball ability that people have mistakenly carried over to Naruto. I don't think chakra works the same exact way as ki does in DB. I don't like the idea that ninja can by default sense chakra in other beings, and use it as a means to detect someone a la Dragonball. It cheapens everything and makes you wonder how anyone gets around in secret if everyone can detect you by your chakra alone. However, as in DB, maybe ninja are just trained to conceal their chakra... which really doesn't sit well with me.

Ki and chakra may be very similar in that they are a life force energy that one can manipulate and empower one's self with... but they are used differently in either series. I mean...maybe they are exactly the same in both series, and Kishimoto just hasn't expanded on the subtleties of chakra yet. It's just the whole RP/fanfic thing of a character automatically sensing someone by their chakra that is annoying me. A ninja always remains hidden, m i rite?!

Well, yeah I get what you're saying. D: I think a few times in the anime some powerful fighting was going on and someone that was not there was like "What is this great power?" or something like that. (Like Kakashi when he was going to check on Naruto and Sasuke when they were fighting in the recent episodes.) I'm not really sure if he meant chakra... or I don't know. XD

Hmmm.....maybe...only super-skilled/experienced ninja can sense other pplz chakra? It's just a theory...

It wouldn't surprise me if a ninja was revealed that could sense other people's chakra. Like, we already have the Hyuuga and Uchiha who can SEE it. Someone trained to feel wouldn't be that strange, I don't think. In fact, I almost want to say someone already mentioned being able to do that ish.. although since I am so dumb, I could be confusing this with something else. :P

I'm pretty sure they never mentioned it in the canon time-line. Kinda'.

I guess it's just so common in fanfic and the like that it became canon that way.

Yeah... You know what though. I'm chatting with my friend right now and he is giving me all these instances of people not being aware of another's strength until it's seen or someone tells them. Like Naruto not believing Jiraiya was one of the sannin till he was told and eople not being aware of Naruto's kyuubi until it exploded aroud him.

If chakra sensing was a part of the Naruto universe, then there would have been lots of mention already in the series of concealing chakra and such, a la DBZ... and of course, there probably would have been talk of Naruto being creepy strong, since you know he's too dumb to conceal his chakra. Also, people would've been like oh, Naruto is clearly this strong because he just keeps going. Not, holy shit this boy keeps standing up!

ki/chi, and chakra are pretty much the exact same thing, cept one is from china, and one from japan.

what i think happens in naruto is that u cant usually sense the chakra, so u can sneak up on people, but when someone starts preforming a handseal and starts to collect chakra for that, the person can feel that something is collecting there, and since theyre ninja they know its chakra, hence theres another person there. unlike DB/Z/GT, u cant sense the person unless he uses the chakra, while in DB/Z/GT the people can sense the chi of the people just being alive, and not necesserily using the chi in some form or another, ofcourse im sure that they have techniques to conseal their chakra as theyre using it for handseals etc.

Hmm, that theory makes a lot of sense. Cause yeah, in DB, you could just be standing there and people could sense your ki. You could suppress it to trick someone into thinking you weren't as strong, but you couldn't just completely hide it (since only non-living or altered beings like the jinzouningen didn't have ki). But yeah, not being able to sense chakra until it's actually being drawn out makes a hell of a lot of sense.

well its not really a theory, well yes it is, but since i have studies about 5 kinds of martial arts i kinda know some of those stuff...

and my theory is prolly the most correct, cuz thats just how it would work, if people were actually able to collect enough chi/chakra to be seen by the eye

Maybe you can only feel another's chakra when it becomes totally overwhelming for the ninja involved? The only times the Kyuubi's chakra manifests itself is when it totally overruns Naruto's. Maybe it's just a matter of scale.

I think you can feel it when it's extreme enough. Like when Orochimaru and Sarutobi were about to go at it, and the rocks were lifting off the ground and the ANBU spectators mentioned that the air was getting thick. So I guess it's just when there's an extreme amount of chakra being outputted, like Sasuke vs Naruto.

I think that people can sence each others Natural enegys. this is is the relm of reality, Like knowing someone is behind you or is in the next room. it is just something we brush off as a hunch but i think it is most likely real. Just we barrie the fact in our minds. you can defintly feel the diffince in energy between a group of 5 people and a Whole bunch of people. for example. frieds gatering and a Anime convention

Ki, Chakra, Aura is actually the same thing but different names. Aura-English, Ki-Japanese, Chakra- Indian I think, Reiki healing. They all stand for life force, like when you sense someone looking at you, paranormal senses. It may be linked to emotions, the "vibes" some one gives out.

Well I know in the real world, there are many different names for the same thing. I was referring to the Dragonball and Naruto universes specifically.
