I think she may be on the council of sand village u know like those 2 elders who ask Ero-senin too become the next kage.
they were the third's teammates so maybe the old lady and the man where the kazekages teammates?

Thats possible. The third could be a relation to them or the third may have actually been defeated by Sasori and had his parts formed into a puppet which would freak any loyal Sand out, seeing their former leaders remains on a puppet.

It seems impossible but if Deidara could trick Gaara into defeat and Sasori is stronger than him, then its not completely unheard of. Though it really trivialises the power of a Kage versus an Akatsuki.

At least for the sand, that'd make 2 Kages killed by Akatsuki and former Akatsuki members. In contrast, I'm sure the Third Hokage would've crushed Orochimaru if he'd been giving it his all instead of holding back. So Gaara is possibly the strongest Kage they've had.

Garaa was kage for a little while and his knowledge in the ninjutsu most likely wasn't that great cept his sand attacks and his super egoness.. *I'm just going to stand here and let my sand kick your ass* So that could've led to his downfall also Akatsuki killing 2 kages no way. Cause Orichmaru had the whole "I'm younger shit going on" And the third was old=less strength sure he's got alot of jutsu etc but he was originally in retirement yes. so he's weaker abit. Well enough to wound snake-freak but still die.

And I think the Akatsuki ain't that all mighty strong take a look at when Naruto and Ero-senin went to go look for tsunade and Itachi and Kisame/(however your spell it) and Ero-senin appeared Itachi said something about retreating I believe saying "he's on of the three" or something. most likely meaning they'd be almost dead fighting him or something yes

So Akatsuki I think ain't all that strong sure S-class but whoopee. If 2 S-class can't capture the idoit (naruto) then they can't be S-class. lol

You know, I think Itachi retreated on that occaision not only because the battle would be hard (which it would have been) but because it was unecessary to fight it at that point. ^^

Well, it was Itachi who bailed out Kisame from the frog-belly. :P Even Samehada couldn't cut through it.

Kisame said while they were watching Jiraiya and Naruto that, "Maybe you can hold your own against him, but there's no way I can." And Itachi said something like, "I'm sure I could kill him, but I'd probably die in the process." That might have been only in the anime version, though.

Basically, he'd been forced to use Tsukuyomi twice and Amaterasu(sp?) once in a short period of time...I love Itachi(though I love Jiraiya more :P), but he'd lost a lot of energy and there wasn't much chance of him winning at that point(especially since Gai was coming, even though he didn't know that). He'd already taken out three Jounin, a decent Genin, and a giant frog-mutant's innards, so it definitely wasn't like he couldn't capture Naruto because he sucks. He was just a little tired. ^^;

That's what I said. It was an unecessary battle that would have been to hard to win. So they retreated.

Yeah, I was elaborating on why, though. This just...irked me:

If 2 S-class can't capture the idoit (naruto) then they can't be S-class.

It's, like, did you(not you "you" but him "you) even read/watch it?! O_o;

And I don't think he retreated because it was unnecessary(using Tsukuyomi on Sasuke wasn't really necessary either), but because the frog thing forced them to. The dude up there is definitely underestimated mah boys, but Jiraiya deserves some credit too. Even if that move was really weird. ^^;

Yeah...it might've been kind of hard to drag around this loud kid with no legs for three years while they prepared the ceremony. :P

I think Granny is not on the council because she and her brother were in retirement and not wanting to be involved anymore (she was only persuaded to come help Kankurou initially because Baki mentioned Sasori). But clearly, she was once a very major player in Sand politics.
