[identity profile] tripmywire.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] chuunin_archive
The Harry Potter spoiler post was deleted (along with the post asking for it to be deleted, as requested). The user was also banned.

Sorry for the delay everyone!

I'll try to keep a better eye on the community, but if it happens again (which I'm sure sooner or later it will) you can contact me via mail or LJ.

Thank you!

Edit; People have suggested having more mods, I agree! So, any member who thinks they would like to be a community mod and could do a good job of it (probably a better job than I do), look for a post soon which will have all the details on my Mod Hunt!

Also, how would you all feel about a Moderated Community? Where a mod has to approve an entry before it is posted? With some extra help I'm sure the approval process would be quick, but there would still be some wait time.. Opinions, anyone?

YAY! I think this community does need more mods. I don't know about having moderated post because I rarely see off topic post.

I'd help out if you needed, being that I'm LJ more than anything everyday.

I'm just glad that you posted and deleted the spam.

If this were to become a moderated community in which entries need to be approved, I think that you would need quite a few mods for it to run smoothly. Since not all of the [livejournal.com profile] chuunin members live in the US, I think that you should get mods that cover a wide range of time zones - that way if someone posts they won't need to wait hours until it appears. Otherwise, it's a good idea! And I agree that you are going to need forms and such for the tonne of applicants.

And I agree with the person above: You'll need a lot of mods then actually ^^" Since this community really IS large~

I like the idea of a lot of mods; I don't really like the idea of having a mod approve an entry before posted. Anyway, if something does pop up that is bad, with a lot of mods I'm sure it will be deleted quickly.

I'd love to help out with the modding - I do agree that we need a few more mods, just for the sake of being able to catch things on time should something happen. There hasn't been many incidents that I've seen.

Modded posts, though, I don't think so. If there's enough active mods, they can jump on it fairly quickly.

I think having a mods from all over the place would be a good idea. I didn't care much for the moderated post thing at first, but after reading some of the comments I'm starting to think it would be an okay idea as long as we have mods that are all over the place (time zones and such) so people don't have to wait such a long time to get their post approved.

Er.. I'm not at all sure if that made any sense. XDD;;

But..um.. anyway! I think modding would be fun. *hinthint* XD;;

Okay, I don't think my comment should BE any longer than this. >.>

I'd love to help you with the modding. I run a community myself, but, thankfully, we've never had any problems with jerks like the Spoiler Man because--well--we're a cosplay community. And really, only the hardcore join cosplay communities. That says a lot about me.

Even if you're adverse to modding me, I can help you sort through the applications you get so that you're not stumbling and crashing in despair beneath the way of a hundred thousand emails.

it's good idea to have more mods. Like your regular mods and your co-mods, who won't necessarily have power to this community but e-mail you with news of it and such.

but for a mod job...

*massages throat* Oooh, now that feels better. XD

Back when we found the need for a mod at one of my other communities the creator set up a poll of all those interested and the members voted. Then again, that one was a little smaller and the frequent posters were well known.

I think a mod system would be great once it got up to working smoothly. I hadn't considered timezones, which a few people have mentioned now, but it would be a bummer if you wanted to post and the mod was asleep ^_^ So, maybe at least one in every two relevent time zone? And they really would, sad to say, have to be sadpeoplelike me who are reasonably constantly online at common posting hours. (it would be prudent, I think, to plan for the school year, of course, and not the summer since many people have oodles of free time currently)

For moderated community or not, I think chuunin is big and popular enough to thrive either way, so long as we have plenty of mods in spread out time zones. look at me I'm so original all I do is agree with other people But when you make the mods, just be sure to set rules for them, to prevent in-fighting or power abuse.

Hi,
Thanks for sorting out the HP post! Some people...

*drags self away from the crack and puts on serious face*

Anyway my two cents is that I think one of the really nice things about this community is that the general level of activity and variability of posts is one of it's real strong points. I'm a member/have been a member of quite a few other communities, and it's only this one where I've found there is a nice level of discussion that goes on between individuals, and I think one of the main reasons that occurs is that people seem much happier to post questions, discussions etc. rather than feeling that there has to be a fic, icon, download link to it, and that there are always people who reply. And this in turn encourages others that maybe their post isn't completely pointless, and they might take part too. Again this is just my feeling, but I'm comparing it to some other communities, and this is the one I feel that has enhanced my enjoyment of the series the most!

I'd be afraid that to make modded posts default, it might take away an element of the sponteneity of posting, and people might feel, oh gosh, am I being a complete 'tard for posting this just because I want to start a discussion on how the Mizuki arc fits in with Konomi-sensei canon (theoretical example...) I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely think I'd probably post less.

My feeling would be that a mod system where people can warn people/ delete posts if they are superfluous/getting flamey should be able to deal with things if they get out of hand, but I agree, firm rules should be set as to what they can or can't do, these are posted up in community rules so that 1. it leaves them less open to criticism, and 2.it hopefully provides a framework that everyone is content to compromise with, and ideally a good level of communication between mods.

This may however change, as with Naruto just starting in America, my feeling is that there's going to be a big influx sooner or later of the younger, less well informed about Naruto and netiquette in general type user, and friction may increase. My other feeling is that there's two populations of users currently - pro-yaoi/those that don't enjoy yaoi discussion, and whilst I think so far both populations seem to co exist very very well, that again could change for reasons above. This might lead to the need for modded posting, however my view would be until posting becomes a serious problem, it would be nice to keep it unmodded for as long as possible.

My god this is stupidly long, apologies for the minor essay in your inbox! I wanted to give a full account of my reasons for preferring mods and unmodded posts as opposed to just a yea or nay...

Anyway, I'm sure there's a level of interest/community spirit to find a lot of friendly mods no problem! I'm a UK user, and would be more than happy to offer to help out as it's an awesome community!

I'd be happy to be a mod. I check the community at least once a day, and I know a lot about Naruto.

Really, it's your decision. Either way, I'm happy with this community and whoever you pick to be a mod.

And thanks for deleting the spoiler post.

More mods for different timezones is a great idea. ;) But moderating every single entry...? I don't know. Like someone already said, it gets to be a strain. How about if the entries can be posted at once (without approvement from the mods) then if an entry is violating any rule, then that's when the mods will take action.

Meh. Oh well. Whatever you decide, it's still chuunin. ;)

Um...but I don't quiet think making Chuuin into a moderated comm would be a good idea. I mean, the only post that doesn't go with Naruto is that HP spoiler thing. So I don't see the need to turn it into a moderated comm. Plus it makes people feelthat they are a little un-welcomed.
Can you tell me what mods exactly do in this comm please?

Date: 2005-07-19 10:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] raineyz.livejournal.com
I'm not too supportive of the moderated comm idea. This community isn't as besieged with wankers as some other comms. I used to be in a moderated community and it was rather annoying waiting for the post to show up. I'm not strongly opposed to it either, so I'll go with the flow.

Would it be possible to implement a rule that all scanlation and fansub-related posts be friends-locked? I wouldn't want to see this community deleted for copyright infringement.

Having more mods is definitely a good idea ^_^

But I don't really like the idea of modded posts. It kinda discourages people from posting. They might think that whatever they're planning to post is too stupid and as a result people only post the important stuff. I'd hate it if that happens cause all the crack posts will definitely decrease ;_; Having modded posts will result in less activity too. So yeah, I'm against the modded comm idea. It'll most probably kill my love for this comm ;_;

Also, there's another issue which I feel that should be brought to your attention. Erm.. when the Naruto dubbing starts airing, what would count as spoilers and what wouldn't? If we had to LJ-cut according to where the dubbed Naruto is, wouldn't we have to lj-cut practically everything? We'd even have to lj-cut characters like Gaara, Lee and Orochimaru!! And also, lotsa people would have to lj-cut their icons Which isn't really possible >.<

So, I was thinking we could : -

(1) LJ-cut everything to make the Naruto dub fans happy

or

(2) Make this comm only for those keeping up with the anime/manga straight from Japan(i.e. fan-scanlations and fansubs). And then have it said in the userinfo to the dub fans that there'll be lotsa spoilers practically everywhere for them so, Join at their own risk? Just so that they can't blame anyone for the erm.. Chuunin exam spoilers?? XD

Yeah, I know the second option is kinda unfair to the people watching the dub. But they can always go create their own comm for dub fans if they wanna. Who's stopping them? Yeah, I'm selfish >:D But really, there isn't a way that I can think of that can please everyone. So it's gotta be one way or another. Unless of course, some genius thinks of a way to make everyone happy. But what are the chances of that? >.<

This is all just my own personal opinions of course. Sorry I have offended anyone ^_^

I agree with both the suggestion of more mods, aswell as a moderated community.

As far as I know, this community is one of the largest Naruto based around. As such, inacting moderated membership should be a good way of weeding out people such as that member.
