1. Who is Kimimaro?
2. Why isn't he one of the Sound Five anymore?
and
3. What is he doing in that room lying on the bed?

1. He is a "refugee" serving under Orochimaru. He is the only surviving member of the Kaguya clan from the Mist village. Orochimaru likes recruiting little kids by manipulating their desires to his cause. >_>;
2. He isn't in the Sound Five anymore because he became ill. We don't know WHY he became ill though. Or maybe they explained it but I totally forgot. X_x
3. He's lying there because Orochimaru wanted to cure his illness in order to use his body as the next container, but it was too late anyway when the time came.

1. Kimimaro Kaguya is the last surviving member of his bloodline, a very very aggressive Clan who all got themselves killed. Orochi picked him up because he collects children he was on the hunt for a new body (like with Sasuke) and Kimimaro is in possession of a rare bloodline limit.

2. He was never really one of them. Not from their point of view anyway, because Kimimaro was a very arrogant character placed over them as a leader and they really didn't like him very much. In terms of onmyou (Japanese magic), he should really have been, as his seal had him representing Earth and the the other gates were the other four compass points. But there you go; he was their (hated) leader but then he became ill.

3. He's in bed because he's ill; symptoms of the disease resemble TB in a lot of ways though it is never given a name. He's in Kabuto's dungeon hospital being sneered at cared for.

1. As explained by many Kaguya Kimimaro was a resident of Hidden Mist and much like Haku his clan was wiped out for having a blood line limit since the Mist hate blood line limits. Damn you Mizukage!!
2. Because his illness stopped him from being able to work well as a Ninja.
3. Because Kabuto put him there! I say this because Kabuto used to be Orochimaru's favorite until Kimimaro came along, Kimimaro had always been fine but then....what does expertise and jealousy lead to?
At least Kabuto becomes favorite again,lol!
