It was always my understanding that whatever happened to a person while Shikamaru had them in his shadow hold happened to him as well. (Not including the strangling hand thing, just the normal shadow hold). Anyway, in this episode Ino had one brother beat the other one while Shika had them under the shadow hold and Shika took no damage at all... am I missing something?

Maybe it lessens as he gets older? Who knows? They pulled a Naruto.

i don't know if this matters, but i thought he had a shadow bind and a shadow imitation as two different jutsu. the bind just holds em. the imitation one holds them too but also they mimic what he does. maybe with the bind he takes no damage even if they do, and it is the imitation the one you're thinking of where he gets hurt when they get hurt?

Other way around. Shadow imitation forces people to do the same thing as Shikamaru, but the victims can be hit with attacks without affecting him. Ino's technique is the one where she takes damage if the person she controls does.

actually... when ino was placed in one of the brother's... shika does remove the shadow when it was confermed. so she had the ability to move. also as pakun said... the brother's strength are that of the sannins.

Andrew_Jp is right. It's the other around. Note that when the girl from the sound gets knocked out from the wall, Shikamaru didn't. She had to do what he did, but it didn't 'effect' him. The attack that does effect both people is Ino's. If the person she's 'in' gets hit, then she will as well.

*pauses* *looks at Randsome1's comment* That's...not... really... logical, is it? Now you have it bothering me. But.. but.. then why wasn't he knocked out when the sound chick did? Why must Kishimoto confuse us so!?

If you remember when he used Kagemane on those 7 Sound ninja when Naruto was chasing Sasuke in the forest, all seven of them could move their upper bodies slightly (to get out blocking kunai) and I'm assuming this was because the technique was used on multipule targets.

If it's used on only one person the jutus forces them to mimic his every move but with more than one I think the best he can do is stop their lower body movement and slow down other bodily motions. But thats just my guess ^^;

Fillers don't need to make sense.

Jeesh, now I have to dl the episode to figure out wtf is happening.

This is what you were thinking, [livejournal.com profile] photosofme:

Looks like it's done more confusing than clearing up. Eh. Canon went out the window somewhere in new manga arc, and the filler is just ridiculous anyway. There is no hope. *has given up*

Sounds dirty like the most reasonable explanation for it? I'd have to go back into the manga to try and make sense of it all, and it's rather late. Maybe tomorrow.
