As I was falling asleep earlier a stray thought floated into my head.  In the Gaiden arc (and correct me if I'm wrong about all this) we see that Kakashi has this awesome ability with his senses that mimic some of the canine senses.  Hence his father's nickname and, we can assume, why he summons his army of nin dogs. 

So I was wondernig about this ability and realized, if you think about it, its not all that special.  The Inuzuka's have abilities similar to their canine companions as well.  From there I started thinking, maybe Kakashi's family line and Kiba's family line, somewhere in the distant past, was once joined together and that's why they have similar ablities. 

It isn't unheard of.  They mention in theory that the Uchiha and Hyuuga lines used to be one before a split happened and that's why they both have advanced bloodlines dealing w. their eyes. 

So that was my crazy idea and feel free to shoot it down.  I was more than half-asleep at the time and could have been completely connecting things that aren't there.

I honestly have no idea if it is correct or not but it makes sense and in my mind would be kind of awesome...

I mean, didn't Naruto say that Kakashi had a better nose that Kiba? That's a kind of random trait.

It could've happened. But the way that I think about it is that Kakashi's just an oddball. Not everyone becomes a chuunin at 6 and a jounin at whatever teenage age he did. For a non-Inuzuka member, I would say that his sense of smell is pretty impressive.

well it's not just Kakashi that has these traits, we know that he takes after his father strongly. So that indicates this is a family trait.

I agree with you there. I will call your idea the "split-bloodline theory". Actually, before the gaiden came up and we found out Kakashi had a dad, I used to imagine that Kakashi is somehow related to Inuzuka family and is wearing his mask to cover the red face marks.

Oh! I never even thought of the mask hiding markings. Hmmmm, now I have a whole new idea to ponder on! I think I'm going to try to find a head shot of Kakashi somewhere and try to draw him w.o a mask and w. the Inuzuka markings, now that you have captivated me with this idea.

Ooops, nevermind! I just remembered that there's an official colored art of Kakashi without his mask (http://www.yale.edu/anime/imgarchive/Naruto/kakashi-sleeps.jpg), which totally throws off my idea.

...But I still like my idea. Maybe Kakashi was somehow able to remove the Inuzuka marks, but the process made his skin so sensitive, and that's why he wears the mask to protect them from sunlight. Yay!

that's not Kakashi on the left. that's the yondaime, the angry student w. the mask under the yondaime's hand is kakashi...a young kakashi, but him all the same.

that was why those pictures are put together, is to show how kakashi's team growing up is similar to the genin team he's teaching.

so the theory still stands.

I meant the Kakashi sleeping in the bed. You can see half of his face, but there's no apparent deformity or marks...
