If the Hyuuga and Uchiha clans are supposedly the strongest in Konoha, why have no one from either of these clans ever been Hokage?

I know the Uchiha clan in itself were like the police of the village, so that would equal great strength in itself, however, you would think someone from one of their clans, if they are as powerful as they seem to claim, would have been Hokage.

At the end of the Chuunin exams the Hyuuga clan leader (Hinata's father whom of which I do not know his name) claimed to be the strongest in Konoha but would that mean he would equal to the Hokage then.  And thusly, when the village needed to replace the 3rd (or even the 4th after the Kyuubi attack) it would seem more logical to look there for a replacement.

I'm sure someone knows these answers and I'm just being oblivious to something.

Well, actually, Hiashi says the Hyuuga are the strongest clan in Konoha, not that he's the strongest person...

i view both clans as soldiers of Konoha. you know, like how the army can't run a country. (only very rarely do military men get elected... because mostly it's lawyers and politicians (and economists?) or soldiers-turned-politicians...)

Perhaps it's because the clans are so powerful that no one from either has become Hokage. There's a potential for conflict of interest.

And after all, the Hyuuga systematically divided their own family, in effect, sacrificing one side for the other. Who wants that kind of thinking running a village?

Okay, so maybe it didn't start that way, but it ended up that way without much effort to change until Mr. Grumpyhairdo showed up.

Or maybe the selection committee was just creeped out by the eye things.

I think the Hyuuga and the Uchiha clans reckon that they're a lot harder than they actually are.

yeah, I totally concur...

both clans have a useful ability that is unique only to them, but so far as a series Naruto's been strong on the whole hard work beating genius thing...

Also, skill level varies from members of each clan, like the innate differences between Neji and Hinata, and also Itachi, Sasuke and Obito...

I think they just think they're special cause their eyes are different XD

Can you imagine Sasuke and Neji arguing who's more special?

Sasuke: Me!
Neji: Me!
Sasuke: I have freaky eyes!
Neji: So do I! I have a stupid cursed seal!
Sasuke: So do I! But mine came from a freakish freak!
Neji: So? Mine came from my freakish family!
Sasuke: So? At least you have a family! Mine was wiped out by my freak brother!
Neji: Yeah, well, my whole family is a bunch of freaks!
Sasuke: Yeah? Well, I wear a silly unitard!
Neji: So? I wear a buckle-strap deal on my head that does absolutely nothing!
Sasuke: *thinks* Shit. I can't top that.

My thinking is that if any sane Uchiha were still around they would be a better canidate for Hokage rather than the Hyuuga. Not because they wound be stronger but the whole reason the Hokage is the Hokage is because he knows a massive amount of different justus. The Hyuuga only know their families and I don't they would learn any other types besides theirs.

Almost certainly political. Clan heads wield a lot of power as is, giving them the title of Hokage would just unbalance things too much,
