281 Similarities Discussion

So, I had some thoughts about chapter 281 that I'm pretty sure some people are going to agree with.



Okay, so. I know it's just not me:





Thanks to athelice for the awesome comparison.

Sai and Sasuke have similar garb, EXACT same eyes, leaf headband, same color hair.

Plus, the guy in bandages says, "From now on your name will be 'Sai'"; indicating his name was different before.
Maybe it's a crack theory - but Sai is either another Uchiha or our time-skip Sasuke.

I may be COMPLETELY and totally wrong.

Discuss.

ETA: I understand that Sai's mission is to go back and infiltrate Konoha. I think maybe it's going to be a whole "OMG BETRAYAL" scandal thing between the Leaf and Sound (like we didn't already know this was going to happen). So theoretically, if Sai is Sasuke, then he'll go back to the Leaf and either A) secretly infiltrate HQ or B) Go back to Team Seven, have a big emotional "Welcome back Sasuke" chapter, and then end up betraying them and have a fight to the death arc. Remember: Sasuke was supposedly under Orochimaru's control for 2 and a half years. He could be seriously brain-washed, which could explain drastic personality changes.

Well, if it is Sasuke then the old guy's a worse goof than Tobi, since sending Sasuke to infiltrate Team 7 would be a pretty dumb thing to do....I mean even if timeskip Sasuke, by the power of cheese, had lost his memories or some such thing, then even so Kakashi, Naruto and the deadly Sakura would know him at once and whatever cover there was supposed to be would be gone.

And anyone could put put on a Konoha hitaiate. Kabuto still did, when he was no longer truly a Konoha nin.

No, I think Sai is probably a new boy. Girl. Boygirl...person. :P But you know, who knows. ^^ As for him being an Uchiha (or having Uchiha blood), I certainly wouldn't rule it out; I have always felt it perfectly feasible for a few Uchiha to be out there beyond Konoha, who perhaps weren't there on *the* day. Or might be the bastard offspring of some enthusiastic young Uchiha chap or lady who couldn't keep their pants on whilst off on a mission...

That's what I thought, too--actually, I thought Sai Stu WAS Sasuke. But then that was just from the initial shock. Sai and Sasuke are similar, but I don't think Sai actually is Sasuke. Sasuke would have had to have been brainwashed in order to act a complete 180 of his personality. Besides, wouldn't Orochimaru be around? And Sasuke doesn't have a cute lip curl like that. XD

But I mean, you could be right. Sasuke could have had a hell of a makeover with some of his old features still intact. But it would make no sense if he were to return to Team 7 because they would recognize him right off. I'm guessing he's going to "replace" Sasuke's absence in Naruto's and Sakura's minds, but ultimately end up hurting them by another BETRAYAL. DRAMATIC IRONY.

I thought of the "OMG BETRAYAL" scandal too. Because yeah, he could always act like he's changed his ways or whatever or have some kind of plot to go back to Team Seven and betray them to Sound later on. You never know.

Btw, keep in mind that he was under Orochimaru's rule for 2 and a half years. He probably IS brain-washed, even if Sai isn't Sasuke.

I doubt it mainly because of the kinds of things Sai is saying. They don't quite match up with Sasuke's personality. Plus Sai is wayy too girly. :<

But I do think he looks like an Uchiha, coincidence or not.

It can't be Sasuke, though! How totally trippy would that be? His entrance back into the manga (as I have envisioned, anyway) is suppose to be dramatic and chock-full of sexy evil. Somehow, I pictured him in a Sand-nin outfit and that god-awful smirk on his face after doing something naughty and causing much trouble for our Konoha nin. This is just a wierd way to bring him back. But the eyes...

Dude, Kishimoto is a god at this sort of sneaky stuff. He may not be Sasuke, but if he is, we may not officially find out until chapter 5000.

There's a Konoha symbol on the wall of the building they're in. So they may very well already be in Konoha. I doubt it's an Uchiha, similar as they may look. Or maybe it's a branched off version of Uchiha! Hyuuga--Uchiha--GaliuuStu! He probably shoots raybeams from HIS eyes!

Eh.. I think it's a chick. X.x Not only does it look like he/she has hips, but his/her arms are a bit too slender and lacking muscles to be a guy.

It wouldn't really make sense if it was Sasuke. I mean, if it was.. it would just be really stupid for him to try to be on Naruto's team. He'd recognize him way too easily. And if he didn't, Sakura definitely would.

And, as for them dressing similarly.. most ninjas dress in a similar fashion, don't they? X_x

I thought of this, but I just can't accept it. The eyes are freakily similiar, and the names sound similiar, but why would he say, "You're name is Sai now" but then tell him to infiltrate team seven, where he would known as Sasuke. It just doesn't add up. But something weird is going on.

If he was it proves that Orochimaru can turn males into tranvestites. Prolongued exposure to evil has gender bending consequences in the Naruto verse. Just look at Haku, Orochimaru, Itachi, Deidra, and Sasori.

I just had an idea that would only come up in fanfiction.
Sai is a girl of the Uchiha Clan looking for Sasuke. When they all have an angsty reunion, Sasuke and Sai will marry in the end and restore their clan. The end.

This may be me being picky and retarded, but if it WAS Sasuke, then i have a weird feeling we'd all know.

I definitely agree they have a somewhat resemblance, and no matter how PMS-like Sasuke is, i don't think Sai is a guy.

But then again the whole Haku being a guy thing hits me...

I agree with people who say that Sai is a new character. It seems a little too unlikely that he's Sasuke.

I have feeling that he'll go to Konoha and bond with Naruto, become a better person, learn how to smile, etc. Somehow, after he's developed a genuine relationship with Team 7 he'll decide to reveal his true identity to them, but they'll find out from some one else first. This will lead to a huge misunderstanding and probably Sai redeeming himself by selflessly sacrificing his life (or becoming seriously injured) to save Naruto.

...it's just a hunch.
