The year 2006 is shaping up to be the year of Naruto as far as the anime scene in North America is concerned. And why should Halloween be any different? Along with the ghosts and goblins prouncing about your neighborhoods holding out their pillowcases for candy come this October 31st, you just may be seeing quite a few Naruto's and Sasuke's to go along with them too! This comes as no surprise really, but it has been announced that VIZ Media has teamed up with Disguise Inc (based in San Diego California) to deliver Halloween costumes to the masses in the USA and Canada this year. Of course it's not just about Halloween, as these costumes will surely be a fixture at many anime conventions to come as they are now. On a somewhat related Naruto merchandise sidenote, it has been just announced that the first Naruto game for the PS2 (Naruto: Narutimate Hero) will be coming to us completely translated this Summer, a few months after the much anticipated release of the Nintendo Gamecube and GBA Naruto games from D3Publishers of America and Bandai. Look for Naruto to become a staple in stores as VIZ still looks for licensees for: Back-to school, sporting goods, footwear, accessories (watches, eyewear), confections, health and beauty aids, and stationery.

I can see it coming! The headline: "The All-new Akatsuki Nailpolish brand!!!"

Costumes!! Yay! Burn those shitty ones from Hottopic!!

Footwears! Ninja-sandels anyone?

Eyewear! Let hope for a Sharingans! XD

What do you guy think of this idea?

In London, only Forbidden Planet(and a few odd tiny shops in Chinatown) sell Naruto stuff. ^^ No sign of Naruto dub being shown anywhere here in the UK as far as I know. :)

While mass-produced Halloween costumes are generally very, very shitty, I have to admit, they generally are better than a lot of stupid cosplayers. Sure, the edges aren't hemmed, but at least they're FINISHED, and it's easy to just hem it. Whereas, a lot of people do the opposite, or don't do anything period. Arrrgh I hate it.

And they're good to cut apart and get patterns from, and then you can alter them to make them more fitting/accurate.

Oh god EW. Mass produced halloween costumes suck XD They'll be 10 times worse than anything you find in Hot Topic. Also, it'll probably be made in sizes for kids 12 and under.

*gags*

I think it's kind of...ugh. The wearing of the merchandise, I mean. (I don't wear it myself.)

BUT, I'm very excited about the games! Other than that... T_T;

Sharingan eyes have been around for a while now >_>...

but of course NOW they will be cooler for some reason. I can see people wearing headbands EVERYWHERE just like people do at conventions even if they aren't a Naruto character ~_~;.

Haven't worn mine to a convention (haven't been to one), but I wear it everywhere else. It's a blast because it annoys people that don't know what it is to an extreme level. The few and far in between people who know what it is are fun too.

I swear the next time someone asks me about mine, I'm going to tell them, "It means 'I am a ninja, and you're not.'"

I normally just laugh at them, and/or tell them that I'll tell them on the last day of school.

I think I'm going to need more desk space. ^_^ Most of it's being taken up in a mock battle arena in which Naruto, Sasuke and Chouji are duking it out with Inuyasha, Miroku and Sesshomaru while Kikyou, Iruka and Tayuya referee. Gaara is trying to kill Tidus because Tidus got to stand next to the teeny bubble gum machine and Cloud and Kakashi are both staring each other down in preparation for a large fullscale battle which will probably end up moving onto one of my bookshelves as they call in reinforcements. (That Vincent Valentine figurine has just been begging me to buy him.)

I am so very happy about this. I love collecting little figurines from my favorite anime/video games. Soon I'll have my teaching degree and then some of them can come to school with me! Let's see if the little sproglets cheat on a test when Gaara is glaring at them from beside my pencil cup.

*wearing her naruto jacket right now* eeeh... i like merch, but man, i hope it doesn't get out of hand. i like more obscure fandoms, and it seems naruto will be having none of that! that being said, i'm definitely going to be feeding it. i also collect action figures, and i like clothing merch. i won't be wearing the forehead protector out in public, though. :D

im not trying to be offensive or start anything but what does it matter if naruto goes mainstream? who cares what matters is that you enjoy the show for what it is and not the idiots that are going to sprout out. and even WITHOUT mass merchandising in USA theres a ton of naruto idiots out there watching the subs :x i personally think its a good idea. i wont have to go on ebay and pay EXTREMES just to get stuff i like.

Hmm... I rather enjoyed making my Hinata costume and my partner's Naruto one... (and a chouji for a friend) Oh well, the more the merrier. But those sandals are a bitch to make... *grumbles* I'd buy them just to save the trouble.
They already have sharingan contacts, both the two comma and three, (and blue ones???) but no Mangekyou... that would be freaky. They should so make them.
I guess the reason there's all this paraphanalia so soon, is because Naruto already had such a big American following before the English release. I bet Bleach will be the same way. Plus, Viz probably knows it won't make as much on DVD sales as they'd like, because the hardcore Naruto fans (those of us who buy all the crap) all have illegal copies prefer the Japanese over the English dub... ??? Just a thought.
