Oh the English Dub...

OK, so I know I'm a little late on this post, but I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed last week's English episode. I particularly liked Sakura's "how should I know if turtles can be sensei" Naruto's "well excuse me for not noticing his greatness. I was too busy watching him climb out from underneath a turtle" and Sasuke's "I can't believe I was beat by somebody so lame" Oh and Gai's comment about his manly good looks was amusing also. I haven't watched that episode in like 2 years or something, so I don't remember if the Japanese version was so funny. Probably. It is Gai and Lee.

Anyway, as for the voices recently...
Naruto's hasn't been annoying me nearly as much as usual
Lee's (THEY CALLED HIM ROCK LEE!!! *dances wildly*) was pretty good, I thought.
Gai's was different, but I like it anyway.
Kankurou, I was skeptical at first, but it's OK. I wish it was deeper, but he's got the right tone.
Temari, I thought sounded a little too bratty. Her voice would have been better for Sakura. It was better during her second appearance though.
Gaara, well... I love Gaara so much that I don't think I could ever be happy with his voice. I didn't completely hate it. We'll see how it is when he's killing people.

I had the captioning on my tv set and noticed they spelled Gai as Guy-sensei.

I guess maybe they feared that if someone saw it spelled as Gai they would mispronounce it as Gay. And that just wouldn't be cool. Believe it~!

actually, in the second manga character guide, Gai's name is romanized as "Mighty Guy" so maybe that has something to do with it O.o

According to Wiki:

"Although he is almost exclusively referred to as Maito Gai in English, the second official data book (Hiden: Tō no Sho) states Gai's name as being Might Guy."

"The name "Maito" is from "might" and together with "Guy", becomes "a mighty Guy", a joke aimed at the "hot-headed hero" archetype that appears in many movies and anime."

Since I haven't purchashed the English version of the manga nor have kept up with the dubbed version, have they actually mentioned his name?

Actually, Viz can't seem to decide what to call him . . . it's spelt "Gai" in volume 5, but then in volume 8 it switches to "Guy".

During the wave arc I felt Naruto's voice start to annoy me though I actually supported it before. It's getting better again, thank god.

Rock Lee had the worst voice acting I've heard in anime in a LONG time. It was pitiful. The voice itself isn't so bad, but the acting was so horrific that everytime I heard it, I got so annoyed, more than Naruto's voice. I wanted to punch through my TV. Neji is completely wrong and doesn't portray his personality at all either. Gaara's the same. Sakura was THE most annoying though last episode, making it a LITTLE TOO OBVIOUS Sasuke was gonna get a beat down "IS IT!?... YES! THE SHARINGAN! NO ONE CAN BEAT SASUKE! SASUKE CAN TAKE THIS GUY! I BELIEVE HE CAN! -sasuke gets knocked out- OMG SASUKE NO!". SHUT THE HELL UP SAKURA BEFORE I SLAY YOU BITCH! Gai's voice is a little off to me, but it was funny as hell. That's my 2 cents.

At least they called him Rock Lee :P I didn't believe that Lee's voice was Lee's when I first heard them in the dubs. The character voices aren't thhhaat bad I guess - you have to get used to them. I really want to see what Orochimaru and Itachi are going to sound like =P *imagines Itachi having a high-pitched girley voice* THAT would be awesome.

I also wonder if they're going to edit out Gaara's love for killing people. The cencorship! x.x
