(I asked this in another community and didn't get any responses... and I was inspired to post it here from an entry from almost two hours ago...)
Okay... what I was wondering... is that, we all know these facts: Naruto was a newborn when Yondaime sealed the Kyuubi in him, he was an orphan at the time (or so some people think :O), and then Yondaime died. Okay. Also, Iruka was like, 12 or 13 (shoot my memory if you must) at the time. Lastly, Naruto appears to have been living on his own for a long time. So, what I'm wondering is...
How, exactly, did Naruto survive?
I mean, people think he IS the Kyuubi... but if someone had been nice enough to take him in after the sealing, they wouldn't just dump him on the streets when he was old enough to fend for himself, would they?
This struck me a while ago... but if there was any info I must've missed, sorry. (Not all that far in the manga, though in the anime I thought I heard something related to this but I missed that too... XD;;;)
Any... thoughts? ^^;;

Date: 2006-02-23 09:35 pm (UTC)also, you are SO right about using the kids in the orphanage... but it seems a little cold, ne? raising unwanted children to become soldiers?

Date: 2006-02-23 10:16 pm (UTC)*shrugs* I guess it depends on your point of view of things. I mean, on one hand, the kids could grow up going to a normal school, and then be left out in society to fend for themselves. The System generally isn't very kind, after all.
When a child goes to ninja school, they get job training, and are guaranteed a stable place in society and a competent income. (That's assuming the ninja villages are good to and take care of their ninja, and as far as we've seen it looks like they are.) And nothing dictates the kids have to stay in as ninja, they could quit if they wanted. (Although there might be a term of service or something, which isn't unusual; either way, it's not a life commitment if they don't want it to be.) It's really not that bad, especially considering "normal," adjusted families send their children to ninja school as well.
And remember that this is all during or just post- wartime: Things could be bad, and the defenses low. It might not have been monetarily practical to take such care of orphaned children any other way then preparing them for service. I mean, if the kids go into work for their ninja village, things pay themselves off in twenty years; If not, then they might as well have put the money into more weapons or something practical for warfare.
It might still suck, but it's better than losing the war and having thousands more die, or having the economy completely collapse. When it comes down to it, I think the most unfortunate part is that the kids don't have a family to raise them through it.
Hehe, that was probably a lot longer of an answer than you were looking for. Sorry. ^-^;

Date: 2006-02-23 09:59 pm (UTC)Secondly, Naruto was always alone. He always yearned for family, company and attention...things he could get in some way if he could live in an orphanage. He wouldn't want to leave.

Date: 2006-02-23 11:04 pm (UTC)I don't thik there's an orphanage in Konoha or otherwise Sasuke would've immediately been sent to it upon his family's death. Same goes with Naruto, even if they hated him, they would've been obligated to take him. Orphanages aren't common in Japan and children who become orphans usually prefer to live by themselves or with siblings. I did some research a while back about that since I was curious about how Naruto's toddler years were.
I'm assuming that Sasuke had money from his clan to buy an apartment. Naruto, on the other hand, probably had a stipend that was provided/approved by Sandaime. He seems to have a very familar relationship with Sandaime, so I suppose the old man visited a couple of times (and even took Kakashi to visit the apartment after Naruto graduated). And Sandaime lets Naruto get away with lots of shit that he wouldn't let any other kid get away with. (Some examples: only having to clean off the Hokage monuments when he defaced them, not getting too angry about Naruto using Sexy no Jutsu, allowing him to talk/whine out of turn...) There's also a picture of infant!Naruto from Sandaime's viewpoint as he holds the little one, so at the very least he had some part in placing Naruto where he was when he was young.
There's either one of two possibilities that I've thought of: a) Sandaime's family took care of him or b) some other family were ordered by Sandaime to take care of him for a while. I'm guessing b is more likely because Sandaime wouldn't have thrown Naruto out if the boy had been living with him. He would have had much less control if the family Naruto lived with decided to move or died or did something else that made Naruto family-less. It was fairly young, somewhere around the age of three or four, judging by the often-used picture of a very young Naruto separate from everyone else in the village.
Jiraiya wouldn't have left the kid behind if he had raised the boy for a little while because he becomes very attached to Naruto rather quickly. Same with Tsunade. Kakashi and Iruka were both too young. I doubt any of the clans would've listened to Sandaime for a while and none of the children seem to remember him at all, so that option is out, too. Some of the Jounin, though, seem to be familar with Naruto. Kakashi mentions things every now and then that make me think he's watched Naruto from a distance once or twice when he was still rather young.
There's always the possibility that Naruto's assigned caretakers died but I doubt it. Just... seems too convenient.

But as for Sasuke, he wouldn't have needed an apartment, I think. Well, maybe, if he wanted to get away from the memories. His house was still in good condition. Just keep putting Shout on the bloodstains, they'll come out eventually. XD;;;;;
