Ship List

Ok, because I have a buttload of homework to do, I'm posing a question to every little person out there in Fanland.

You know how everyone else has cutesy likkle names for their OTPs? Yuugiou has Puzzleshipping, HP has Puppyshipping, Gravitation has Singshipping (and sinshipping...yummmmmm). Almost everyone has mainstream shipping names.

Except for the Naruto fandom.
And we seriously need to remedy that, because of the way I tag files on my computer. Seriously. Broken_Naruto_WIP_KakaIruKashi just does NOT fit. Damn.

So here be my propostion.
We make up cutesy names!! And of course, the ones we make up for Naruto fandom must be the best, because we are better than absolutely everyone else.
Right?

So here's how it goes.
Let's say Crazy Otaku-chan has an idea. She sits down, logs onto LJ, and types this as a response.

Pairing: KakashixIruka (KakaIru)
Proposed name: CrazyOtakuchanshipping

And then she's done. End of story. Hit post reply, and we're all happy. I will do all the obscene work and actually compile a shipper list, and, if I go crazy enough, hook links to the main LJ comm/website for those pairings. Then I will make sure every community who has anything at all to do with Naruto shipping will recieve a copy. Even if it does slaughter Flists like bug-killer does ants.

So...you know you wanna try it...*wheedles*

if you're going to be snippy about the pairings like the KakaIru one
how about overlyclichedfangirlshipping for SasuNaru -_-

seriously... it would just get really annoying if they got used alot 'cause its just a lot of new things to memorize... I find the habit really annoying and hard on others who want to finda a story without having to look up the name of every pairing... just to see if its the one they want to read...

Like I said on your crosspost at naruto_fanworks, long shipping names are a pain. (Your facts are a bit skewed, though -- xxxshipping names do not have widespread popularity in Gravitation or especially in Harry Potter. Though Yuugiou... gah. T_T I don't recognize that fandom since I left it. *waxes nostalgic for the days when Yuugiou fandom was entirely names like JouKai and YamixYuugi where you could tell who was involved at a glance XP*)

And if you spam your new "shipper glossary" everywhere, I reiterate -- you're not going to be making any friends. I moderate one shipping comm myself, and if I saw somebody going around spamming every single shipping comm with the same post, I'd be tempted to delete it off my comm for the redundance. You're not going to make people take to these names by force. Chances are, with the number of years Naruto has been around, you're not going to make people take to an alternate naming scheme at all -- the perfectly good one we have, borrowed from the Japanese fandom, has been well-entrenched in the six or seven years the series has been around.

And here I've always been glad that Naruto fandom doesn't use those stupid names.

Doesn't the Naruto fandom's lack of confusing shipping names prove that it is better than the others? We have recourse to logic, to clarity, and to tradition. The way pairings are written now makes it easy to see at a quick glance exactly who is involved and in what way. Changing that will only terminally confuse people.

Plus, we're writing about ninja. I don't think many of them go in for cutsey.

Yeah anyway, like I said on narutoyaoi, I think we're awesome because we're different. And those cutesy names end up being longer than the names we use now, which usually don't go beyond 8 letters. And the current system is ultra descriptive, 'NaruSaku' tells you what's there, more so than something "cuter."

And they're just... icky when it comes to Naruto. I don't wanna cutsey-fy something like... OroSasu.

...snakeyshipping... *dieslaughing*

Anyone else think that Orochimaru is just a not-so-cheap knockoff of Michael Jackson?

Never even heard of any of this, but if ya ask me it's pretty moronic. I hate 'pairings' to begin with, but whatever... now NAMES for this stuff? I hate those ridiculous anime clichè's. Whatever happened to watching the show and only drawing the characters you like? Now we got stories about male on male sex of fictional animated characters and people act serious about it, too. I'm just so lost... I obsess HYSTERICALLY over Naruto that it's my life, but what the hell man. People confuse me.

people started writing. The advent of the word processor (and the subsequent spellcheck, though some refuse to use it) only made this easier. That's what happened to watching the show and only drawing the characters you liked.

Wow, you people are just straight out rude and boring. [livejournal.com profile] creepy_crawly seems to have just been playing around, and you all reply bitching and bashing. She was just trying to have fun. If you don't like it than don't reply. That's what I really dislike about the Naruto Fandom - 90% of the fans are rude and don't know how to enjoy the fandom. xP

She has the right to post with her opinion. We have the right to reply with our opinions in turn. As long as they're stated respectfully, there's nothing in the chuunin rules prohibiting disagreeing with someone. :/

No of course I understand that. But still, unneccessary negitivity is really just a waste of time...and it can be hurtful. :(

From: [identity profile] ex-duelist.livejournal.com
I don't think this is unnecessary negativity. She made this post knowing that she might not get 100% positive glowing reactions. No one has yelled at her or called her names or otherwise personally insulted her. Everyone has simply expressed their opinion that they dislike xxxshipping style naming schemes. The OP calmly made a proposal, the commenters calmly voted it down. I see nothing wrong with that.

That's great and all that it hasn't gotten out of hand, but in a way it has. I don't think she needs *counts* over 15 posts telling her that her idea is stupid. One thread with replies of agreement or similar would have been satisfactory, IMO. The commentors did not calmy vote it down, they sliced off her head. ¬_¬ And she just wanted to have fun, there was no reason for people who didn't want anything to do with it to participate in the first place. There were still a few replies that were in agreement.

From: [identity profile] ex-duelist.livejournal.com
I'm sorry to break it to you, but people are not obligated to always agree with things you say just because expressing disagreement might hurt your feelings. I don't feel anything said in the comments above was out of line, and as a chuunin moderator, I would be obligated to take action if they were. When people post to a public forum, they cannot control the audience's reaction. That's just one of the hazards of using the internet.

Disagreement is allowed on chuunin. End of story.

Date: 2006-03-16 04:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tomato-uchiha.livejournal.com
Well naturally not everyone's going to agree on the same thing. And I'm not asking it to be...it just seems a bit excessive when one person is just trying to have fun and several people reply with negative comments.

I'm not saying what they did was 'wrong', because they were just exercising their freedoms. I just think that perhaps next time people could be a bit less 'overbearing'.

But you're right it's not like one person posted nasty things it's just the overwhelming flow of negitive opinions.

Are things like that really the kind of things that can just be ... introduced into use because people decided they should be? I've never been too keen on using 'ship descriptions like that in any of the fandoms I've meandered about in the past, but near as I can make out, things like that tend to enter popular use gradually rather than through a bunch of people drawing up a list and showing it to everyone. I mean, okay, I suppose you could have a quiz bet about it, but I doubt it'd work going about it that way. People probably aren't about to start calling their 'ships by different nicknames all of a sudden just because someone gave them a list. That ain't how fandomlanguages work. You want to introduce new names for pairings, write a fic and refer to them as that in the summary. Then write another. And get some other people to. It might spread if you're lucky.
