Rewriting an Epic.
Mar. 27th, 2006 05:12 pmOk, so, how many people here remember this summer? Of those of you who do, how many remember writing in the KakaIruKashi Shipper Essay? Or the KibaShinoKiba? Or SasuNaruSasu?
Anyone?
Well, if you do remember that, then you probably (ok, you maybe) already know that sometime in September, the webhost holding all of those kicked it, and kicked it hard. When it finally started running again, the essays (all 5132 pages of them) were gone. These included Shipper Essays on all the Naruto fandoms, the Loveless fandom, and several others. This was a great loss to the shipping community, as well as the writers who participated.
A few of my friends and I were discussing what we can do about this. Idiots that we are, we didn't save our essays before sending them off. Mine never got moved to my new computer, and is now gone forever. Seeing as no one exactly remembers who all participated in it, or who sponsored it anymore, we've come up with something new.

Here's the deal. We need an application from you. We check said application. If it's all good, we tell you yes. You type up your essay on the characters/pairing (about 5 pages min, 50 max.) Then you type up a sumamry of what you said (one page, max, please). You send it to us no later than November first of this year (2006) and we find a webhost willing to deal with it. We hope. Barring that, we're going to be posting it essay-by-essay on fanfiction.net or an LJ comm specifically set up for the Shipper Essays.
So, here's an example of the application, as filled out for me.

Shipper Essay Applying For: KakaIruKashi
Link to work: Work Sample found at my LJ!
See? Easy! We just need your name, your ship, and a sample of your work. If you'd rather we contact you via email, just leave your email and preference in there, and it'll be done. Also, don't forget to tell your friends and fellow writers and artists. We really want to have the epic, 412-page KakaIruKashi again, and the other 300+ page essays were simply amazing.
And if you participated in this over the summer, please just stick 'Been There, Done That!' in the subject line of your comment. Consider yourself insta-accpeted.
FAQ
Is this just for writers?
No! In fact, Shipper Essays always need fanartists! We need artwork to illustrate our points, sites to link to, and many other things! Plus, it's really cool to see all the artwork in the middle of all the words. Seriously, artists, please apply.
What kind of stuff do you want?
Anything we can get, really. But it needs to be well-written anything we can get. We need more than just 'OMG-so-HaWt' as reasons you believe what you believe. Also, we need links and such not. There is nothing more boring than reading 412 pages of fan-essay and not getting to look at pictures or click on links.
My ship isn't very mainstream. Can I still write an essay?
Of course! In fact, we'd love that. ShinoNeji? Cool! TentenKimimaru? Weird but cool! Anything you can write and support, or draw really prettily, we're liable to look at and say, 'Cool! Ok!'
So there you have it, friends. Care to help?
*Very sorry for any dead F-lists. Very, very sorry.*

Date: 2006-03-27 11:00 pm (UTC)Yeah, I most likely will. If I get in, I think I can at least manage 5 pages mininum or a couple pics. ;3
*wanders off to write/draw some sample stuff*
That's horrible about the last site crashing, though. I live in perpetual fear of my hard drive crashing. >_> Good luck with rebuilding!
