Orochimaru's Edo Tensei summoning technique

Hey i have a question about episode 69 of naruto.


I felt like re-watching Naruto today since i no longer have school for 2 weeks FWAHAHAHA.
But yes, back to the point.
It's right at the beginning of Orochimaru's and Sandaime's fight, when Orochimaru summons the first 2 hokgage's.
My question is, Orochimaru is about to summon the 3rd Hokage, but sandaime stops it. The translation in the subtitles says Kuchiyose, Edo Tensei means Summoning, Reincarnation to the impure world- if Orochimaru had summoned the 3rd hokage which technically isn't possible since he's still alive, would it have been like a copy of him? Or...would it have been sandaime in a past life?

I think the third coffin was going to be the 4th Hokage, and not the 3rd. Since the 3rd is still alive, it's not possible to summon his dead body. I think it was just a miscommunication. I was watching this episode the other day, and they never say it's the third hokage, just the third coffin. ^.^

I'm pretty sure the kanji on the third coffin was a four for Yondaime.

Haha, yeah, I started re-watching the series and realized it was the 4th too, cause at first I was like...he can bring up...the alive too? Haha, so don't worry, you're not alone!

Hmm... I wonder why Sandaime actually had to stop the third coffin... if you can't attach a live soul to a dead body... *cough* Naruto is Yondaime *cough*

I'm speculating that is was because the fourth was the strongest of them all and he knew he couldn't take on them all.

But what you said could be true too... so who knows. :)

well, yeah. It would have been friggin sweet for him to fight the 4th. He thought he wanted to stop the coffin because he didn't want to fight yondie, and we're supposed to think that, too, but he was planning on dying anyway. (I mean we didn't know it at the time, but yeah... the fight would have been over way too soon if he'd pulled out the death god right away.) The jutsu that he used against the 1st and the 2nd would have worked on the 4th, too. But had Orochi's jutsu failed on the 4th, it would (potentially) have given the whole plot away.
Course it's all just speculation.

That was actually going to be Yondaime. MAN do I wish he was released, and I loved how even Sarutobi said he can't let him summon up the Yondaime Hokage, sort of promoting the fact that he was the strongest of all the Hokage. Ugh... That would of been a brilliant move by Kishimoto if Orochimaru revived Yondaime.
