Begging a Favor, Bringing Fanart

I'm coming out of lurker mode to ask a huge favor. Does anybody have, or know where to find, a good pattern for the Akatsuki coat? I'm going to have a table in artist's alley at Animazement, and I really wanted to cosplay Deidara. Because then I could sell prints and say "Art is a bang, un!" Incidentally, Deidara is also just about the only character in the series that I even remotely resmeble, so it works out pretty well.
I would reallyreally appeciate any help; my sewings skills are good, so a complex pattern is not an issue.

Okay, now that I'm done begging, I offer fanart! I think I may have posted a link to the sketch for this a while ago, but I stayed up till 4:30 last night coloring it, so now the interweb must be subjected to the cuteness!

My one comment woudl be that his hands and legs look like they're floating because of a lack of shadowing... But if you ignore that, then this is a gorgeous piece! I like the style of colouring and the anatomy of the hands (oh gods, it's so hard to draw those >_>))

I have been looking for an Akatsuki coat pattern actually for the same reason...I want to cosplay Deidara as well..If I find one, I'll upload it for you. ^_^

LOL, my best friend is going as Deidara...so there will be 3+ at Animazement. I'm Random Akatsuki Member #7 because everyone else claimed one XD

God only knows how we did ours. Don't ask either...you don't want it. Our clouds look like SHIT.

That is REALLY quite good...:3 adorable, I especially love how Akamaru is all snuggling his stomach ^^

Now, critique. The only problem I found, more than once, is that some things don't look like they're resting on the plane they should. For example, Kiba's right arm, due to the angle of the forearm and the hand, doesnt look like it's actually resting on the ground. Akamaru's body also doesn't react at all when it hits Kiba's thigh, and the fabric of his forehead protector doesn't look like it's resting properly on the ground, either.

But overall it's really really good, and the coloring is awesome! 8D

Eheh, I don't mind the crit at all. It's rare that I get actual criticism on my art, so it's actually really nice! I totally see what you mean about some stuff not 'sitting' right. Some of that is because the shadows are deeper in the original than in the scan, and some of it is just floating. Like the forehead protector - completely floating, no shadow on the grass at all! I think I may go back and fix a few things now...

As the best friend mentioned abouve (hi hikoku), I can tell you how I did my Deidara cosplay. I got a pattern by Simplicity of an asian style long coat, enlarge the sleeve diameter by two inches, the bottom by two inches, and the collar by two inches as well.

Oooh, thanks! That makes really good sense. About the collar - did you make it sit further out on the shoulders, as well as make it somewhat taller? Did you need to use a stiffener to keep it standing up right?

Yes, I used interfacing for the collar, and set it out about half and inch farther.
