Okay, so I've heard plenty of theories on how Naruto is Yondaime's son.



When Itachi speaks of Naruto, he refers to him as "L'héritier du Quatrieme". In other words: "Yondaime's heir". I think we can safely assume that theory to be true :P

And no, this wasn't from a scanlations. It was taken directly from the official french translation and published Naruto books. :D

Yes, I am aware this is my second post of the day, but I had forgotten to mention this earlier!

Not really.. I mean the whole village knew Yondaime sealed the Kyubi into Naruto... It could just be Itachi saying Naruto is the last thing Yondaime left behind. Which it was, wasn't it? How does that make it OOC?

Even official translations get a lot of things wrong or just off sometimes. (Have you read any of the official Naruto English versions? @_@) But at any rate, as ravenlock_3 mentioned, this will undoubtedly be how they chose to translate 'Yondaime's legacy'. It's still ambiguous. Also, even if Kishimoto did mean 'heir', an heir doesn't have to be a blood relation. We don't know what Naruto would be heir to exactly.

Hehe...I almost bought the french manga volumes, because it's the only thing available in bookstores here. Is the french version good, or bad?

(I know the translation is made in France, so sometimes it can sound a bit lame to us french-Canadians ^^;; )

It's the french translation for Yondaime's "legacy" -- the best way to put it would have probably been 'héritage' and not 'héritier'. Then again, some things are often mistranslated or can sound odd -- like in the fifth or sixth volume, translating "foolish little brother" into "mon stupide frère" and completely disregarding the little made me think it wasn't Itachi saying it but Sasuke thinking it the whole time. I was sorta confused. XD;
