Mrrr. I've been re-reading the earlier manga that's actually come out in the U.S. partially out of boredom and partially to see how much the series has grown since the start of it. Naturally, there are some inconsistencies between what's developing currently to what was said in the first few volumes. Kishimoto was still developing the story back then and everything was a bit more uncertain than it is now. However, there was one slight inconstancy that irked me to no end once I spotted it. I was seriously rolling around on my bed like an overturned beetle and having a fit over how obvious it was.

I'm talking about this image from vol. 5, chapter 45. Knowing what we do know about Orochimaru, that KISS tongue thing is his signature move. It's like his snakey version of an erection, he's got it whipped out so much. So.. how in the world did Anko not know who that was? I have yet to see anyone with the capabilities Orochimaru has with a tongue (And yes, I know how perverted that sounded; this is Orochimaru we're talking about). Sure, it would have completely deterioated the plot, but she was his freaking student and one of the elite. She's supposed to be trained to see this sort of stuff. If someone as oblivious as I can be could see that, then why couldn't she?

For instance, I hadn't connected/followed (either that or completely forgot) that Orochimaru and two of his henchmen had taken the faces of the grass ninja. How? I have no idea. I can be stupid like that sometimes. In fact, I think I only noticed this second time because of that image I scanned and linked. I saw that and thought, "OMG! That's Orochimaru! It has to be!" and followed from there.. and felt like an idiot for not connecting the dots the first time XD;

It's happened again in vol. 8 too, as Sandaime-sama explains just what the chunin exams are about. There's a panel of the sound ninja instructor, smirking in perverse amusement tinged with malice. He just screams Orochimaru at me and I roll around and flail again. How can they be so oblivious to that when he's right there and Sarutobi-sensei at the least should be able to pick him out and adfkjlewafioa. *flail, flail* It makes me use run-on sentences!!! RAWR.

*Huff* >_> I guess I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who feels this way. Am I the only one wonders how Anko can be so horridly blind in that?

I can almost understand Anko not getting it, but when Orochimaru was just lounging around wearing his sound headband and looking like a chuunin/jounin/whatever, I don't see how nobody realized that was him.

I mean, jeez. XD; He didn't even NOT look like himself, there. *shrugs* The entirety of Konoha was secretly in on his plot. D: GASP n'stuff.

Haha, yeah, I was thinking that too. "Gee, there's this guy with long dark hair, white skin, and snake-like eyes.. wonder who that could be.." It's like how nobody notices the Sailor Senshi, even though they look EXACTLY the same.

We're just expected to use suspension of disbelief, I suppose. :P

Well, there was the whole deal that Anko was missing alot of her memories during the time she was in-training under Orochimaru, (Fillers are useful :0) but I dont see how she missed the long-tounge-resemblence x3

Are we forgetting that Zetsu is from Hidden Grass? Apparently, a long snakey toungue from a grass nin wasn't peculiar enough for Anko to take notice. Makes you wonder what other kind of people live in Hidden Grass. O-o`

We haven't heard much at all about the Grass nin. We didn't even get to see them in action during the chunin exams. So yeah, it's possible that the Grass-nin have that sort of thing. Orochimaru traveled around a lot in 13+ years I'm sure. He could have mastered techniques and whatnot from them?

The thing about him rolling around in public and looking so much like himself without getting discovered: it's just an anime thing, I think. Kishimoto made him look deliberately enough like his normal form that we could make the connection, and made the rest of the characters blind to it. It's just so we can see what the characters can't: it's a storytelling sort of device.

As for the first, I mean, there's a chance that other countries have bloodline limits or techniques that imitate those in Konoha. I mean, Konoha doesn't pretend to own every technique. It's quite possible that other country variations on common techniques exist. Also, it'd kind of be hard for Anko just to be, "OMG IT'S OREO HE DID THAT CREEPY TONGUE THING I KNOW IT'S HIM". XD;;

I think he mostly picks bodies and outfits that just suit him. Like the Grass-nin whose face he stole, he had the same long hair and whatnot. He may have already been wearing outfits like the Grass nin and said "Hey! They dress like me~ :3 *yoink!*"
