Forgive me if this has been done before, but this community is gigantor and I've been curious for a long time now. I've seen several comments that mention the "anime only crowd," or something similar to that... so I suppose my question is: Am I one of the few that has followed Naruto mainly and/or completely from the manga? Please sumbit the poll and give an elaborative answer in comment. ^^ I really want to know~
[Poll #726535]
PS- Don't mind the icon. It's new and for some reasonlike the invasion of pantsu icons, I automatically thought of this community.

Date: 2006-05-11 03:46 am (UTC)Naruto's Jesus Powers?I ended up getting all the manga up to 9 that week, then all the chapters up to 102 or 103 and read them within two weeks... Did the character names get mixed up for you too?no subject
Date: 2006-05-11 03:48 am (UTC)2) The anime is FIIILLLLLEDDDD with fillers that I'm not partial to.
3) I might have accidentely gotten into a new series while waiting for both of those to pick up.

Date: 2006-05-11 03:52 am (UTC)omg, I just watched Fruits Basket today. You don't see too many fans of both Naruto and Fruits Basket... =) (though I've checked out of the English fandom, that shit takes way to long to come out, I'm still reading it in Japanese, though)

Date: 2006-05-11 03:55 am (UTC)Also, the voice actors (whom I all adore) give the characters that extra element that makes it all work.
I don't watch the fillers. >.

Date: 2006-05-11 04:21 am (UTC)You could be on to something. It could be that Naruto is an older fandom. It's been going on, what five or six years now? Fruits Basket is still relatively new. Not to mention that the target audience is the teenage female population, as you pointed out =\ Anyone from the teenybop era can tell you just how scary they can get. Hell, anyone who's come in contact with a fangirl can tell you how scary and serious they can get @_@ So yeah... you could be on to something.
I would love to hear the theory. :D Best to take it somewhere else though >_> Talking Furuba in a Naruto community... yeah, no XD cj.yira@gmail.com if you want to e-mail it to me.

Date: 2006-05-11 04:21 am (UTC)Of course, shippers in both fandoms fail to realize that the most important theme is love in friendship. XP

Date: 2006-05-11 04:23 am (UTC)...but I prefer animation over manga for just about everything. I have a much harder time 'getting' the characterizations and parallels in print, and I'm highly reliant on vocal cues like tone and pitch and volume. I think part of my problem is also the fact that I tend to read very, very fast; when I watch something, I have no choice but to go at the pace of the show, which gives me more time to think things over and catch on to subtler things.

Date: 2006-05-11 04:28 am (UTC)Which is part of the reason why I prefer manga over anime. About half the anime on Cartoon Network do NOT have closed captioning and for the life of me, I can't seem to download episodes (I have NO IDEA WHY). So if I want to enjoy anything, manga is pretty much essential. O_o;

Date: 2006-05-11 04:34 am (UTC)I don't really want a lot of romance in the end. I mean I want closure for the main characters, but I'm fine with hints for the others. I mean when in your life do all the people you know magically discover their true love (within 5-10 chapters) =) But admittedly, coming of age stories are incomplete without romance.

Date: 2006-05-11 05:13 am (UTC)That happened in Harry Potter =\ It was not good. I don't think anyone liked that unless their particlar 'ship did not sink.
Dammit Rowling, you sunk my battle ship! >=oRomance just isn't as important in stories like Naruto as it is in stories like Fruits Basket. Almost the entire span of the manga has been Yuki and Kyo spazing over and crushing on Tohru =\ Naruto.. it's all one-sided which is freaky but amusing at the same time. They've grown out of it for the most part too. Lee doesn't dote over Sakura as much as he did when he was first introduced. (He doesn't get much screen time either, but you know =\) They've grown up as ninjas and they realize that romance isn't as important when you have to watch out for your own life.
...Or something.

Date: 2006-05-11 05:31 am (UTC)But yeah, about Fruits Basket and Naruto, that's exactly what I meant in my other post. The value of romance is completely different in the two series.

Date: 2006-05-11 08:48 am (UTC)but i suck at following action scenes in the manga. oftentimes i'm like "what just happened?" and go back several panels to check again.
