Forgive me if this has been done before, but this community is gigantor and I've been curious for a long time now. I've seen several comments that mention the "anime only crowd," or something similar to that... so I suppose my question is: Am I one of the few that has followed Naruto mainly and/or completely from the manga? Please sumbit the poll and give an elaborative answer in comment. ^^ I really want to know~

[Poll #726535]

PS- Don't mind the icon. It's new and for some reason like the invasion of pantsu icons, I automatically thought of this community.

Well if you mean RECENTLY...then you'd have to have a "neither" for me.

1) The manga is boring me. Too many new characters yet not enough characters. (Meaning, I didn't bond with the new characters and the fact that it's JUST them makes me sad.)
2) The anime is FIIILLLLLEDDDD with fillers that I'm not partial to.
3) I might have accidentely gotten into a new series while waiting for both of those to pick up.

I started by watching the anime (in rapid succession... I watched every episode up to 135 in two or three weeks) and then I started reading the manga from Kakashi Gaiden. ^_^ So yeah, I still watch fillers when I'm bored, but I live for thursdays.

nope, I have the ultimate memory for character names and faces, lol. The speed-watching didn't scramble my brain ^_^

I guess so, but my friends think I'm a freak XD "God, you know all the characters already? Haven't you only been watching for a week!?"

I obsessively finished chapters 1-162 in about two days and started downloading anime. ^-^ I believe that you have to read and watched both the manga and anime to really appreciate Naruto.

I used to do the anime, too, but then came the fillers. After they were all the same lame story, over and over and over and over, I cried and ate some babies. When(if)ever Kakashi gaiden comes on, I'll start watching again.

omg, I just watched Fruits Basket today. You don't see too many fans of both Naruto and Fruits Basket... =) (though I've checked out of the English fandom, that shit takes way to long to come out, I'm still reading it in Japanese, though)

yeah, the fans are kind of dicks... (perhaps because they are mostly younger girls?) And they'll defend their pairings to the grave... Yar, and I had the most awesome crack theory about the series, (if you wanna know I'll tell you) and I went through and gathered information, and it was awesome and it rocked... but mostly meant to be funny, and they like yelled at me for bringing up such a stupid idea. IT'S CRACK FOR CHRISSAKE! Naruto fans don't take themselves so seriously. Maybe because the most popular fandom pairing will never happen, *cries* and we're OK with that. ??? sort of. Maybe because the series is cracktastic in places, itself??? Maybe because the fandom is generally older?

yeah, I'll email it to you. hopefully it'll make you giggle.
ugh, I remember teenybopping. oh the angst.

I think its because Naruto is less... girly than Fruits Basket. We're not even sure at all that any real romance will even occur in Naruto (despite what Kishimoto says, I won't believe it until I see it) as compared to Fruits Basket where romance is a visible theme.

Of course, shippers in both fandoms fail to realize that the most important theme is love in friendship. XP

but the girly fans *cough* me *cough* put romance into the fandom. liek omfg sasunaru 4evaz! =)
I don't really want a lot of romance in the end. I mean I want closure for the main characters, but I'm fine with hints for the others. I mean when in your life do all the people you know magically discover their true love (within 5-10 chapters) =) But admittedly, coming of age stories are incomplete without romance.

well, what I meant by real romance was... something with depth. Instead, what I think will happen will just be as simple as "Naruto-gets-the-girl." bleh, that's boring x.x So, unless there are some startling character revelations/changes along with the romance, I won't find it too significant...

I happen to think that NaruSasu is great character-wise, but we all know that won't happen XP

...I absolutely loved HBP... and I could care less about ships. XP It really is a good book if you ignore that stuff.

But yeah, about Fruits Basket and Naruto, that's exactly what I meant in my other post. The value of romance is completely different in the two series.

I prefer the manga, and read the manga before I watched the series, but I watch all manga based episodes. There are moments - particularly with fights - that sometimes turn out better when animated.

Also, the voice actors (whom I all adore) give the characters that extra element that makes it all work.

I don't watch the fillers. >.

Like someone else mentioned, I watched the anime up to 135, and then picked up the manga at the Gaiden. I still occasionally go back and read earlier manga chapters-- especially for looking up a key moment, because it's easier to find...
...but I prefer animation over manga for just about everything. I have a much harder time 'getting' the characterizations and parallels in print, and I'm highly reliant on vocal cues like tone and pitch and volume. I think part of my problem is also the fact that I tend to read very, very fast; when I watch something, I have no choice but to go at the pace of the show, which gives me more time to think things over and catch on to subtler things.

I started watching the anime, and will go back to it once it stops showing fillers and I can get the episodes. I like reading the manga though, and I think I like reading it more than watching it, so I'll probably keep reading it even if I watch the series again.

i'm relatively a latecomer to the fandom; like most others i sped through the anime first and once i got to the fillers i started the manga with kakashi gaiden and part 2. from time to time i read part 1 manga to refresh my memory.

but i suck at following action scenes in the manga. oftentimes i'm like "what just happened?" and go back several panels to check again.

No thanks for me, I go by manga canon only.

Manga canon exclusivity is SO last season.

I read the manga, watch the anime, buy the books and CDs and plushies etc. ::lol:: I have no life. :DDD

(Actually, I have often wondered whether naruto fans are just naruto fans or are more widely anime/manga fans; I am watching about 7 or 8 series right now and i love them all!)

I actually started watching Naruto till about episode 90 with only the anime. Than I read the manga and started following the new releases of both the anime and the manga. Currently, however, I read mostly the manga because I dont really like fillers.
