A few questions
May. 16th, 2006 07:04 pmHello, everyone. I'm working on a fanfiction, and have come upon some questions that I don't have the answers to, so I figured you all would be able to help out. Some of these are things that may have been mentioned, but I forgot the answers and don't know where to look while others might not have answers, so if you could share what you think on them, I'd appreciate it very much~ Thanks in advanced!
1. How large is Konoha? And does it extend behind the Hokage Faces aside from the hidden paths, or is it just the ground in front of it?
2. Are the training grounds outside of the walls that surround the village? If so, are they protected by shinobi guards as well as fences (a la the Forest of Death)?
3. How populated is Konoha? What is the shinobi:civilian ratio?
4. Who was allied with whom during the Great Shinobi Wars?
5. Did Sakura find out exactly what happened to Sasuke's family, and if so, in what chapters/episodes was she enlightened?
6. The Curse Seal and the Jinchuuriki all have distinct chakra signitures, but what about regular ninja?
7. Since chakra is a combination of spiritual/mental energy and phsyical energy, is it possible that a person not trained in the ninja arts could accidentally form chakra?
8. Konoha seems to be home to a mix of shinobi and regualr civilians, so is it possible that there's a school system set up for children who do not want to be shinobi?

Date: 2006-05-16 11:44 pm (UTC)2. That hasn't been made clear in canon.
3. No one knows, and there appears to be no fanon consensus either. Personally I put them at about 50,000, but I've heard my friends make esimates ranging anywhere from like 4000 to half a million. I don't think I've ever even heard anyone speculate on the ninja to civilian ratio.
4. All we really know is that at one point Konoha was fighting against Iwagakure and Kumogakure, and that at some point Sunagakure signed a peace treaty with Konoha and they became allies.
5. As far as I know, we've never seen canon scenes of Sakura being enlightened about the Uchiha massacre.
6. Actually, as far as I'm aware, in canon we know next to nothing about the idea of 'chakra signatures'. It's mostly a fanon concept.
7. We know absolutely nothing about how people are trained to use chakra, so I don't see why not.
8. This is yet another thing canon doesn't talk about.
Anyway, in general, as you can see... the answer to most of these is "we don't know, you'll have to make it up" ^^;
I'm fairly sure about all this stuff, but if I'm glaringly wrong on any point, someone feel free to correct me.

Date: 2006-05-16 11:50 pm (UTC)1: Judging from the faraway shots, it seems pretty damn big. I don't think there's anything behind Hokage mountain though; it seems to kinda mark the "back" of the village.
5: I don't think they're ever directly shown any signs of her being aware of it.

Date: 2006-05-17 01:55 am (UTC)1 a. First image, probably seen before:
b. Second image, someone kind enough to scale it out Konoha-scale:
2. To me, it seems there may be more than one training ground, but all must be within the compound else they'd be open to attack while having to train - makes for dangerous conditions (but maybe that's what they're going for? ^____^), and according to the second map, it's labelled in the legend where they place the various spots...
3. I don't believe there is a definite number, at least I don't think it's ever be printed before. If I had to guess a range, I'd say a few hundred thousand and upwards? And I wouldn't have a clue as to the shinobi:civilian ratio, but maybe 1: a few hundred I'd figure...
4. I think it was pretty much an all out attack against against each of the bigger countries, with only a few of the smaller countries allying themselves with (probably) the nearest larger country? It would make sense that the bigger countries like kaze=wind, tsuchi=earth and hi=fire would be at odds with each other (possibly including kaminari=lightning in this grouping). Seeing as suna(wind country) had to sign a treaty, this probably means at some point they were at odds, why else would there be treaty/alliance talks. And the secret wars included attacks from iwa(earth country) so it would probably be safe to say that they're not (or still not) on good terms.
And I just realized I haven't answered your question correctly at all cause I can't seem to read things right... T____T;;; In short, I don't know who's allied with whom, but it would be safe to say that the smaller (therefore less powerful/resourceful) countries would ally themselves with the next largest storehouse/powerhouse that would provide some source of protection at least?
5. She knows he's alone - how she knows was never explained, I assume that if she did know, she'd have mentioned it at some point - as yet, it has not been noted in the anime or manga ( I wish they would though... ^____^).
6. I would believe that every ninja has some sort of characteristic that would distinguish their chakra patterns from others... the ability to sense this, I'm not quite sure...
7. I think it would be possibe, accidental or not. It would take concentration and discipline but it probably could happen... I'm talking in the Naruto-verse obviously, heh. ^____^
8. I would think so; I can't believe Konoha would have uneducated non-shinobi children running around, though anything is possible I guess... But I would think it would be a small program, perhaps like home-schooling or something of the sort? And probably not so much the responsibility of the Village Council per se, but rather individuals that may take it upon themselves? Or perhaps they get sent outside the village to some place as a program for the whole or parts of fire country? The rest of the country probably has some sort of system set up ne?
Gah, I gabbed too much. Sorry about that... ^_____^;;;

Date: 2006-05-17 03:54 am (UTC)haven't dreamedremember correctly, there were trap doors that went behind the Moutains for an hideout in emergency, right?2. They're not outside, but I think they're close to the exit.
3. Hmmm, well I think Shinobi's are a bit more numerous than civillians, but not by much -- like, 60/40. To guess at the number, though... hnnn, wouldn't know.
4. I think Konoha was allied with Sand, no? (or was I dreaming. Hnn.) they were definitively against Cloud, though. (LOVE ME FOR MY MIX OF VILLAGES NAME BETWEEN JAPANESE AND ENGLISH.)
5. Yeah, she did -- from what we heard, she snooped 'round in the timejump. XD
6. I think they do, otherwise shinobi paranoia would go up ten notches. "THERE IS CHAKRA BESIDES ME BUT I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT IS AN ALLY OR AN ENEMY. OMG KILL IT."
7. I think everybody HAS chakra, but you need to be able to use it and be physically more able than civilians to be a ninja.
8. Well, most civilians don't do jobs that require much education in Naruto -- I think maybe they learn from their parents.
Yeaaah, that's it. XD

Date: 2006-05-17 04:00 am (UTC)3. Ah, thank you for guessing a ratio, I really had no idea what it could be.
4. Konoha signed a peace treaty with Sand, but they weren't necessarily allied with each other.
5. AH! Thank you. For some reason I thought I dreamed her knowing what happened up. *goes to read the first several chapters of Part 2 again*
And thanks for your answers to the other questions as well. *offers you a brownie*

... Oh god I CAN'T STOP LOOKING AT IT. ... can I steal it? 8D

Date: 2006-05-17 04:10 am (UTC)Haha. No, she definitely said something about Itachi being Sasuke's brother, I think because of the resemblance.
I'm sorry, but no. It was made for me by a friend. But feel free to stare at it all you want. I won't charge you.
