May. 25th, 2006 08:18 pmSmall speculation/realisation/question/whatevion for Naruto 308. Move along, nothin' to see.
So, Sasuke's special sword is called Kusanagi. Okay, that's all well and good. Now, let's go back a couple of years to the end of the chuunin exams, shall we?
Orochimaru had a nice sword, right? Yup. And it was called Kusanagi. And looked nothing like that.
...Is it all to do with the mythical meaning? Is Sasuke amusing himself? WHAT THE HELL.
for the mythical meaning of the Kusanagi sword... go here: Yeah here. :D

EDIT because hey I can totally explain myself properly: I mean. Why did he (SASUKE) name it Kusanagi. Not why do we have two kusanagi. That too a little. Or if you think he even DID name it by himself or Orochimaru is just narcisstic?

Date: 2006-05-26 01:08 am (UTC)Or maybe it is because of this: Kusanagi's real name is "Ame no Murakumo no Tsurugi" ("Sword of gathering clouds of heaven"). "Kusanagi" on its own means "sword of snake." Perhaps neither Sasuke or Orochimaru have the actual legendary sword and have snake swords, considering their affiliation with snakes. Perhaps Orochimaru has the legendary sword and Sasuke has a simple snake sword. Something along those lines...

Date: 2006-05-26 01:51 am (UTC)And for Sasuke, he said so himself. ... "My Kusanagi sword!" (redundant a little...)
... *snickers* if you pass Orochimaru through LJ's spellcheck, you can get Irishman.

Date: 2006-05-26 06:57 am (UTC)No, Kishimoto actually ripped that character off from Chinese mythology. He's really called Sun Wu Kong.

Date: 2006-05-26 08:50 pm (UTC)"Ripped", really? Sun Wu Kong -- Son Goku in japanese -- is used in so many mangas/anime, video games or movie it stopped being something copied. Kishimoto uses mythology in EVERYTHING. Like Kakashi says, "look underneath the underneath" and you'll find tons of symbolic things. XD
