Jun. 9th, 2006 07:09 pmI bought Naruto Collector: The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Ninja in the bookstore Monday, and I thought I'd share some things I found interesting in it with you all.
In one part they tell a little about some of the characters and under Haku they have "Haku is less Zabuza's sidekick than his familiar - behind the mask is a face as beautiful as that of a sad young girl." I don't know if they are saying Haku is a girl, or that he just looks like one D: I suppose it could be taken either way.
There is also an interview with Kishimoto in it, I'm just going to pick out some parts that I found interesting/amusing. Bold = Shounen Jump's questions, italics = Kishimoto's responses. Not sure if these have been posted here before or appeared in any other magazines/manga extras before, so forgive me if you've seen it before.
When you were in school did you hate exams as much as Naruto does?
Yeah, I did hate them. My high school ranking was 30th out of 31 students.
Who was ranked 31st?
My friend.
We've been enjoying reading the stories from your childhood in volume 7 of the Naruto Manga, and you mention loving Doraemon, Gundam and Dr.Slump as a kid. Are you a big fan of any current manga and anime?
One Piece. It's kind of edgy, but Akira. And Ghost in the Shell.
Are you surprised by how popular Naruto is in North America?
It's unbelievable to me.
Do you have any special message for your English-speaking audience?
I feel sometimes that Naruto is too Japanese, with all the chakras and hand signs, but as you read it you'll find that it's fun. If you have friends, tell your friends all about it. <-- ROTFL. I love how he said "if you have friends".
Do you have a favorite Naruto toy?
The small figures.
One thing we love about Naruto is how it's so difficult to tell when and where exactly it takes place. People wear slippers but then there's zippers on their clothes and they have telephone poles. What are things that we'll never see in Naruto? Computers, guns, airplanes?
I haven't really made up those specific rules, so they may be airplanes and some other vehicles, but absolutely no guns. Bullets fly at mach 7, so there's no way that your shuriken could compete. As for computers, maybe, but they'd be low-processing computers.
We want to know more about Kakashi's favorite book, Make-Out Paradise. We're old enough to know, so just whisper it in our ears.
Since Naruto in SHONEN JUMP is for young boys, there's no way that I can talk about it. Even here, amoung us, it's too embarrassing. If you're an adult, you can imagine what I mean. It's a fantasy fairy tale, and it's pretty graphic.
& since I'm here, I'll pimp
ninjafy ( Naruto Ratings ) in case someone hasn't heard of it before :D
& a poll, if you want to fill it out. Depending on if I get bored, I might make a moodtheme, but I'd rather make one that would interest the most. :D
