Fillers.

The ultimate question on the minds of Naruto anime fans-- when are the fillers going to end?

I have too much thinking time on my hands.

Fact no. 1

Of the first 135 episodes, 126 of them are direct (for the most part) adaptations of the manga, chapters 1 to 238.

126 episodes = 238 chapters

Assumption no. 1

126 is a little more than half of 238. Therefore, it can be assumed that a certain number of chapters will result in about half that number of episodes.

# chapters ÷ 2 = # episodes

Fact no. 2

There are currently 71 chapters since the end of part 1.

Assumption no. 2

For the sheer hell of it, let’s pretend that chapters 239 to 309 have been animated, even though that’s far from being even remotely true. I’m only using 70 chapters because I like whole numbers.

Using the little equation I thought up:

70 chapters ÷ 2 = 35 episodes

-------

Ooooh… ouch. That’s not that many, is it? And considering the amount of time that it takes to animate one episode (the animation process is seriously long and grueling when you think about it), there are probably way less than that number.

So… you might ask; why won’t they just show the episodes they have finished?

Well, if my pseudo-calculations are right, there just aren’t enough to air. And the pacing of the storyline also plays heavily into how much the animators are able to do. Unless Kishimoto-san sends them his story plans/drawings/etc. way before they show up in the manga. However, it’s widely known that he doesn’t oversee the animation process…

…so, I don’t know why they said spring would start the new canon episodes.

If anything, they could do *shudder* timeskip filler… which would be kinda cool, but considering their current track record, it would piss us all off more if anything were screwed up. And there’s no space for filler in the current manga storyline, seeing as we jump straight from saving Gaara to finding Sasuke.

In Conclusion:

We have a long way to go.

Well... once you have 35 episodes... there are also more chapters = even more episodes = another bunch of chapters = even more episodes... until the anime catches up again ^^2

That's nearly 9 months of animation. It takes two months to animate a single episode of Naruto. ^.^;; We'd be doing another year of fillers if they started airing those 35 episodes, nine months from now.

This is, of course, all speculation.

Erm... not really two months... they PLAN the whole episode two months before it airs but draw it 2-3 weeks before it airs...

XD Well the studio pierrot manager (at the lecture last year) told us that the drawing is done within 2 weeks normally - since not only one studio works for them but a few. It takes much more time to plan the episodes actually. And then the voice acting is normally done within a week. I guess this depends on when the voice actors have time... since they don't work for only one anime O_o

And I remember him saying that there were times when the studio had to draw during the night to finish an episode in time~ At least it's something I still have in my head.

LOL Yeah XD well... I can imagine that the story board itself takes much more time since it's the actual plan for the episode with all sketches and stuff... the animators just follow this plan....

I'd imagine that they have to be working on more than one episode at a time. And, well...okay, no offense to the animators because I know it's hard, but it's not like Naruto animation is at the top of the chart. X_x

I would really prefer it if they took the route of American series and had a season, then took a month or two off. They'd be able to bring the quality up a little bit, not have so many fillers and allow Kishimoto to get ahead.

I was thinking that they'd at least have timeskip fillers, like all the battles from Team Gai that Kishimoto skipped over and stuff like that.

...maybe they meant next spring. XD All well whatever...as long as it eventually gets animated, I have no problem with it. Obviously some of it is complete...I'm thinking they're waiting for the 3rd movie...but who knows.

I BELIEVE that they only had around 120 or so chapters of Naruto done by the time the anime started (correct me if I'm wrong), and it went from 2002 to 2005 with only 1 real filler arc. Three YEARS.

I don't think that there is really much to worry about. We'll get a part 2 filler arc or two soon into part 2 I'm sure, but it won't be a colossal 1+ year filler rape-fest again. Not for awhile at least.

Chapter 310 may have very well have opened up an opprotunity, but I won't go into it if you haven't read it yet XD

but that also means they are spending time making the FILLER episodes as well.

You make decent points... but you forgot to include the fact that even before the end of part 1, they probably finished some episodes already in the next timeskip beforehand. also, they use different people to create fillers, and switch animators. they're all seperated by groups usually and switch on and off... so there is not as much stalling as one believes. on a good month, a studio can make up to 2 in a half to 3 episodes.

I'm hoping with all my heart that dattebayo is right this time in saying that there are only 15 filler eps to go. last week, they said 16, and the countdown has begun. The means.....*counts on fingers*..in September the fillers should end.......*cries*

*weep*

It'll never end. Even if they get to the timeskip, they'll probably just have more fillers.

If they were to start airing the timeskip now, we wouldn't catch up to chapter 310 until the end of January, and that's assuming they don't expand on things like the team Gai fights. By then we'll have 35 more chapters, which means 17 more episodes which would last until May. Then we'd have 17 more chapters and 8 more episodes which would last until the end of July, then 8 more chapters and 4 more episodes that would last until the end of AUGUST.

For fuck's sake, I don't think there's _that_ much of an issue!!! ;___; Air the damn things!
