The third part of my essay on the moral message of the manga, the part about Sasuke. It is difficult to derive any moral messages from his actions as it is not clear yet whether he will end up as a good guy or as a villain. If he ends up as a good guy it will mean that a his actions were correct and are supported by the course the story takes, if he ends up as a villain, it will mean a confirmation for those who who as Jiraya or Kakashi thought that they knew "this type" and knew that their course of revenge would lead to perdition.
Still Sasuke's decisions are interesting and give us something to think about, no matter which side he will end up on. We can learn from him about loyalty, but also about caring for people who are not your friends, and respecting their rights, and we can learn from his position on sacrifices. We can also learn that it is one thing to be ready to sacrifice your life, and another to sacrifice your dreams, and your personality.
And, yes, I admit that I am a Sasuke-fangirl. I hope that I managed to remain rational about it.
( Part I, "the Surface", with introduction and thanks )
( Part II, "the Underneath": Personal bonds, and longing for peace )
Warning: Spoilers for the current canon (up to chapter 430)!
( Part Three: Beyond Loyalty - a.) Sasuke )
( Being loyal – extending one's love )
( Behaviour towards those who are not your friends and don't belong to your group )
( Accepting Limitations )
( Sacrificing the few for the many – no one is left behind )
( Not a lamb: Disobedience and breach of loyalty )
( Post-chapter-400-Sasuke, and an outlook )
