Summary: They are now the only two left who can understand each other.
Notes: This was my first time trying my hand at Gaara/Naruto, and I just hope I didn't do too badly ^.^;; The pairing thing was kind of hard to manage.

“Sometimes I miss it,” Gaara said abruptly, though with less inflection than the words should have had.

Wonderful fic! You should really cross-post this to [livejournal.com profile] gaanaru if you haven't already. I really like your depiction of the quiet understanding between Naruto and Gaara in this fic. First time writing this pairing, eh? Well, I think you got them down very well!

Gaara still looked at himself and saw someone who was excluded from the mass of humanity, exiled by the demon that was no longer in residence but had left marks on his soul as surely as he’d left them on his face

For me, that was one of the most powerful statements in this fic. With or without the demon still inside him, Gaara will always have to deal with the emotional aftermath of having spent years of his life as a sociopathic killer. Shukaku is as much a factor in molding Gaara into the person he is now as Naruto is, and even if Gaara's body doesn't house a demon anymore, he will always have that special bond with Naruto and vice versa.

Anyway, I totally favorited this fic on ffn. Lovely work!

Much Love,
Marysia

I just reviewed this on FFN, but I also suggest sharing it with [livejournal.com profile] gaanaru. We always like goodfic there. And incidentally, I think you did very well with the boys.

"The pairing thing was kind of hard to manage. "

Well, you see, that's just it with NaruGaaNaru. The pairing usually (in my opinion, at least) isn't this extremely overt thing; it's kind of subtle and between the lines and sweet that way. That's what a lot of people, including me, like about the pairing, so I loved your take on it. :]

I think you did a wonderful job. I like that you've explored Gaara's feelings in the aftermath of Shukaku's removal. Naruto's trait of understanding peoples pain was portrayed really nicely too! Well done :)
