So a few days ago someone posted a request about
the correct pronounciation of Naruto.

What I need to know is how to say Suigetsu.

I've been waiting for him to appear in the anime and now
this damn filler is just dragging out my agony.

Any Japanese speakers out there who can help?

I kind of presume it's pronounced See-gets as u's always
seem to be silent or at least under-emphasised.

Not sure if I'll make sense, but I've looked into pronunciation of Japanese names a little and I believe the name would be pronounced "Swee-get-tsoo," although the "u" at the end would/could be softer, which would make it sound more like "Swee-gets".

I think whether or not the "u" is pronounced after is follows 's' or 'sh' has to do with if the next syllable begins with a consonant sound or is a vowel. Like "Sa-su-ke" has the soft "u" because it's followed by "ke." And names like "Shu-i-chi" have the "u" pronounced because it's followed "i."

I cannot be certain as I don't speak Japanese, but this is the pattern I've noticed and what seemed more correct when I was looking into it (because how to pronounce names properly is something that I obsess over XD).

Like the person above me, I'd pronounce it Swee-gets, definitely :3 I do Japanese and I'm certain this is how it'd be pronounced, the only variation being if someone wanted to stress the 'tsu' a little more, it'd just be more like Swee-getsoo but yeh whatever... stick to the first one XD

Japanese is spoken by syllable, so:

Su i ge tsu.

Japanese is generally a very "soft vowel" language, so just say that without really enunciating. If you go ""SUE E., GET SUE", you're doing it wrong :D

spelled out (therefor said slowly) it would be soo ee ge tsoo, but fast it's like it's been said, swi-get-tsoo

I've been pronouncing it "sue - get - sue" since he first appeared in the manga.

I often have trouble with the names in Naruto. I don't speak any other languages aside from English, so I'm just not good with pronouncing names like that.

But now that I see what other people have been saying about how to pronounce his name, I'll have to try to correct myself more often. D;
