I like the Minato flashback, but it is sad. I just like seeing Team Minato. I know someone who will be very happy about that.

Looks like Konoha is figuring out that all of Pein's bodies are actually dead. Girl Pein is really adorable. I'm liking her more and more these days. See? All those people whining that there aren't enough strong females in Naruto? One of the strongest characters/villains in this series is 1/6th female and has at least one female identity. That should count for something to you.

Hn. I wonder if that's Rin's body. I didn't think so before, and I still wouldn't see any reason for it to be in Amegakure, but looking at the flashback pics, it does look similar. Plus, now Kakashi is hinting that Rin is dead. Logically, though, I still wouldn't get how that makes sense? Hmm.

But Kakashi didn't really get a "flashback." But we DID get to see what Kakashi's dad looks like, and now I'm all WTF because if Kakashi dies and NEVER loses the mask... Although him seeing his dad made me tear up.

Well, that's Kishi for you. He likes fucking with people and tricking them. Itachi's whole character for most of the manga was apparently one big trick. I still bet more money than you can imagine that Kakashi is not dead. The whole thing feels like a total fake-out to me.

I like to think that he won't kill Kakashi as it would be a needless death. I think Tsunade will be next as that would effectively finish the Sannin and present the team 7 threesome as the next most powerful trio. If Tsunade dies, then Sakura will have lost someone important and the role of Hokage is open, as Naruto lost jiraiya, and Sasuke- well - sort of lost Orochimaru. If Kishi is anything, it's consistent in turning things in a circle. And if that's the case, Kakashi would live to see them accomplish their goals as the third did.

If Kakashi dies, nothing is accomplished. He will just be another soldier in the fray. And his death really didn't present the sort of big death you'd expect Kakashi to have. You'd expect him to die saving Naruto and having a moment with one of them so that their determination grows from his wise words - or something warmfuzzy like that. I hate the idea of Kakashi dying alone.

I think Kishi will let us have our backstory with Kakashi and this is the perfect way to work it in to the storyline. And then when the story is told, we'll see Kakashi's face (though no one else in the manga will) and then Sakumo will tell him he still has things to do...

Asuma died having a baby on the way, so I hate to think that the famous Hatake clan would end because Kakashi used his sharingan too much... Future generation and all that.

Oh dear, so he did die. I did not want to believe it, though after chapter 424 I was losing hope. I am still in doubt, but at the moment it's just my heart that wants him to stay alive (well, and my pride that is not pleased as being wrong. Tuesday I told one of my students that I thought that not Kakashi but Tsunade would die first.) Rationally I think that he is dead, but I feel a bit let down, even though I like it that he is beginning to talk to his dad. It still feels a bit anticlimactic. Also there is still the secret of his Mangekyou Sharingan. And that rather mysterious bottom line of pictures, with Asura Pain's head panel falling off. I hope that Kakashi won't be recruited as one of Pain's bodies. (Would make sense though. Asura Pain has to be replaced.)

Naruto frog-merging technique is not working because of the kyuubi! I like it - and I hope that it will be Naruto who will find a solution. It's funny that as a teacher I like it best when the teacher is at his wits ends and when the student has to find a solution for himself - but is this not what growing up is truly about? Finding a way for himself?

For the rest: I hope that Kishimoto will come up with some surprises that we have not been able to work out for ourselves. I know it is difficult to write for young children who discuss this only with two or three friends, and for grown up people who organize in the internet to discuss this in various forums and spread their ideas everywhere, but I wish he would take the ambitious way.

I think Kishi is pretty good for suprising us, so I am hoping for a few good twists. Asura's head might be a good indication - although I'm frightened Kakashi will become one of Pein's...oh wait. I forgot about Choji's dad. I wonder if he'll be used as we know he's dead.

I don't think Kakashi is dead. He seems to be at a crossroads to look back at his life and I think it will be an opportunity for him to forgive himself and move on. He'll have a chance to forgive and understand his father.

I agree with you. I think Tsunade, exhausting her chakra, will die when Danzou attacks. If she does, Kakashi's death will have less impact as the worst news would be that the Hokage is dead.

Kakashi talked about running out of chakra a lot through the series and came close time after time. It would be fitting for him to die in battle by losing chakra.

Someone said "elite ninjas" would die or something like that. He was refered to as the elite ninja time after time.

I am a huge Kakashi fan. He is my favorite manga charater. (The list of most beloved charaters who were killed off is a long one.). I for one like to know in the end he is at peace, smiling, and getting to talk to his father.

I don't see Kakashi being killed by such a one-dimensional villain in such a lame way. Kishi knows how popular Kakashi is, so if he were to kill him off I suspect it would be of a greater fashion. That's why I don't think he's gonna die. Plus, when characters die in Naruto (for real) much more time is devouted to their backstory, fight and eventual death. Seriously, it takes forever. Kakashi barely got six pages. Plus, before the Konoha battle, there was hardly any time spent on him, even though Kishi usually spotlights characters conspicuously before their deaths. So yeah, I think this is a fake out. If not, Kishi will have totally disrespected one of his most popular characters.

I find the scene where Kakashi comes across his dad, either as an actual spirit or just his internal conception of him, rather touching. As with the desire for him to talk and share his life with his father. All that anger that he used to have as a kid seems to be gone. (Could this be the development that Kishi was talking about?)
Maybe it's only so touching to me as someone who used to hate their own father and has, over time, grown past it. so there's some identification there? Or maybe because I like seeing characters come to terms with their pasts. Either way, I think that's my favorite past so far in this whole Invasion Arc
