Well, I'll miss the DB subs, but given Viz's decision, I think you guys made the good and honorable call. I'm happy to see it, since it's going to (hopefully) send a message that fansubbers and fansub-watchers aren't evil pirating jerks, but that we just don't want to be trailing pathetically in the dust after Japan (and dealing with ridiculous DVD prices and/or lousy dubbing).

I just have a concern -- will it be available everywhere or just for the USA? Because if the streaming only works for USA IPs then a lot of us are going to be fucked. Does anyone know for sure?

Wow... I totally understand and respect your decision. It's great that they're willing to release a subbed version, but I guess I'll miss being able to watch the show subbed (streaming doesn't work well/at all on my campus, unless it's YouTube). Not to mention Viz will never be as good as you guys (they don't even do karaoke...). We'll miss you guys. ♥

I live in Australia, so I've been concerned we won't get any free streams as well. The ANN articles and press releases don't really clear it up at all. From what I can tell the only confirmed worldwide release is paid-subscriber on Crunchyroll. It doesn't state if the week-after free stream will also be worldwide. It would make more sense if it was, especially considering the liscensing rights etc... shouldn't be too different for a free stream of the same content, but other Japanese companies that have used Crunchyroll for free streaming (Toei in particular from memory) only liscenced for US and Canada release.

Naruto.com doesn't state that it's only for US and Canada, but their ad-supported streams of Part 1 are currently only available for the US. Hulu is obviously US only, and Joost hasn't confirmed who'll have access to their streams.

Hopefully we won't be left behind. It would be crazy if non-US people don't have any access to free content. 1) It's not very fair, and 2) It would mean fansubs would still be necessary to a lot of people. Personally, I'm not willing to pay for Crunchyroll service. The company started out as con-artists, I'd rather a free stream or something like i-tunes with high quality and channel subscriber fees rather than per-episode.
