A much better chapter than I thought it was going to be, from the spoilers. Ah-a, I love it when that happens. I still think this invasion is dragging a bit and I wish all the fighting would solidify (compared to most of Kishi's fights, which follow a very specific pattern, this whole thing has been all over the place, eh?) into a more focused conflict, but I think that's in sight now. Maybe. I guess Pain having six bodies makes for a different kind of scenario.

I liked all the flashbacks. KISHI, you remember! ♥ I suppose the point would be that Konoha cares about Naruto now and we see it and go, ooh, look how far the kid has come. Which is cool. Though my cynical self finds it a bit hard to believe that absolutely NO ONE would betray Naruto? Naruto did look pretty hot in that one page -- the large shot of him all sweaty. Hah.

I should not mention He Who Shall Not be Named, but where the heck is Sasuke? :P

Pain's jutsu are quite disturbing.

Wow I totally agree with this. While I like some time away from the Uchihabananza this invasion is a lot less structured than the one during the Chuunin Exam arc. Plus, like I mentioned below, Pein just bores me as a villain so it's hard to feel invested.

Still, I do kinda want to see Sasuke show up though. I mean, won't his desire to destroy Konoha fit in perfectly with what's going on now? It's a lot easier to destroy a village that's already in disarray from fighting another incredibly pwrfl badguy...

Oh gosh oh gosh I love the flashbacks holy crap. Naruto's really come through, hasn't he? From "fox-brat" to "the Kyuubi kid" to "Uzumaki Naruto... you know, the kyuubi kid?" to just "Naruto" all the way to "that Naruto sure is amazing!!!". It's like... ahhhhhhh Konoha ILU. &hearts

I'd nearly forgotten Ebisu...we haven't seen him since Naruto met Jiraiya, have we? He was pretty cool in this chapter.

The flashbacks were so sweet. But...Konohamaru? Is Kishi going to be unpredictable and kill off a kid? Personally, I think that Naruto's going to arrive in Konoha and save Konohamaru...or so I hope...

Aaaaw, the progression of Konoha's thoughts on Naruto <3 And Ebisu! I somewhat missed you, since we haven't seen him in the longest. It was also nice seeing these flashbacks through his eyes since he was on the side of not liking Naruto, and to see as how he was reluctant to teach Naruto anything - and was appalled that Konohamaru took a shine to him - to now protect his whereabouts like he were any other ninja in the village. Aaw.

But, oh god Konohamaru.. what really are you going to do? You were just made a genin and aren't as magical as the amazing genin Naruto D:
If he manages to defeat a Pein... I think my reforming faith in Kishimoto will be lost again, 'cause seriously. He kills Kakashi but Konohamaru beats one of them? That's... so sad for Akatsuki's side, worse than the other guys dying because of chuunin.

I think Kishimoto may have written himself into a corner by trying to make Pein come off as so incredibly powerful. Rather than giving him tangible and meaningful abilities like Itachi he just sort of made him randomly godlike and...I dunno, his powers confuse me too. Like he stands there and one of his bodies eats peoples souls or does whatever. In the end he comes off as a really, really boring villain (which is why I doubt Kakashi is going to be killed off by him. WAY too anticlimatic).

I'd personally like to see more of what Madara can do. Pein's just a snorefest.

like others I really like how they show Konoha's warming up to Nartuo. it's slow and incremental and that just makes it all the more believable, until they actually are CONCERNED for him. And I like that Ebisu actually cares about Konohamaru too, not just that it's a prestigious position to teach the Hokage's grandson

I agree. I keep feeling like Ino is the one character of the Rookie 9 that hasn't had "her day" yet. It seems like she's been trying to find her niche (your run-of-the-mill kunoichi, medical nin...) but hasn't quite hit her thing like most of the other rookies... Maybe it'll be intel like dear old daddy?

This chapter. Yay. *sobs* Kishimoto has not forgetten his main character... Finally instead of "sasuke sasuke sasuke" there is a focus on who Naruto is and what he means to people. This is why HE is the main character. I almost felt like Kishi forgot. Yay on the village wide Naruto love. x')
