If you're using the rich text editor (which I think you are, most people entering HTML manually don't feel the need to set font color to black) PLEASE FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY leave the color button alone.

Alrighty, LJ-lesson time.

Rich Text Editor and HTML are two styles you post in. When you open up the screen to make a post, if you see a whole bunch of buttons for things like italics, bold, underline, links, etc etc etc, you're in rich text and that means that LJ can insert coding for you, but it sometimes messes it up in bizarre ways.

HTML editor means that you're putting all the coding in yourself -- it's not that complicated, really, just bold-tags, link-tags, LJ-cuts, stuff like that. This page (http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/02/20/basic-in-post-html/) gives you a good overview of some basic HTML tags you will want on LJ.

Among other things, you can sometimes end up accidentally setting your text color to specify black font when you're using Rich Text. What that does is override people's customized journal styles when they're reading your entry on their friends list, so that someone like me who has a black background and, in my case, off-white text gets a post that has to be highlighted to be read.
