I remember after the timeskip when Sakura first showed her super strength, Kakashi thought that not only does she have the same powers as Tsunade (including med jutsu) but also is originally a genjutsu type so she might even surpass Tsunade completely...but that's all we heard of it. :(

That's why it'll pop up right at the end of the series, when Sasuke tries to put her in a genjutsu, she breaks out of it, and then epically punches his lights out!

I'm pretty sure it was just Sasuke remarking that Sakura had a knack for detecting genjutsu. Not necessarily that she was remarkably good at it or enything.

i don't think that's so much a specific and intentional characteristic of Kakashi as it is evidence of Kishimoto's forgetfulness/sometimes poor storytelling.

You also have to consider that these aren't real people that change their mind as time goes on for various reasons.

They're fictional characters created by a single creator, which means they don't do anything their creator doesn't make them do.

Kakashi would only change his mind if Kishimoto intentionally decided that he would change his mind for story purposes, which we wouldn't know unless there was a panel explicitly talking about how he changed his mind, which hasn't happened yet and probably won't (until it becomes relevant story-wise).

It's at the end of volume four when they register for the Chuunin exam, and actually it was Sasuke who saw through the illusion, but he tried to encourage Sakura, who was very inconfident of herself at that point.

I think Kishi forgot. Either that or he meant she was good at cancelling genjutsu, not casting them. We do see her cancel a few high-level genjutsu--she and Chiyo even cancel Itachi's genjutsu.

Genjutsu has always been shortchanged in the series. Really though, if you disregard the Sharingan, genjutsu really hasn't been used much at all. =|

I think the problem is the Sharingan. One of its powers is genjutsu. I can hardly see Sakura counter something like the Tsukuyomi. Maybe get out of it, but not cast a genjutsu that is as evil.
