So!  A while back I was chatting (read: ranting) to a friend (okay, a few friends... what?) about how most of what happened in canon could be avoided if Sasuke had, you know, stayed in the village. She countered that they'd never have been strong enough to face all the shit currently going down.  I believe my answer was something along the lines of "Pffft.  Sure.  If you say so."  She replied again that it was a moot point, because Sakura didn't manage to keep him in the village with her begging, and Naruto hadn't managed it with his fighting.  I agreed.

Of course, that's what fanfiction is for, and when one applies fanfiction to the situation, one apparently gets
