So you have convinced your parents or some study abroad program to ship you off to Japan. Or maybe you have saved up the pennies yourself, and want to treat yourself to a trip to Japan. And you want to get in on some anime goodness. I can help.
Since this is a Naruto comm, I am going to focus on places that would be most beneficial to your needs—aka finding Naruto merchandise. I’m willing to answer questions that don’t pertain specifically to Naruto (thought I cannot guarantee an answer that you will like, ahahaha).
So! Shueisha, the company that produces the many different JUMP magazines, has about six different JUMP Shops around Japan. I’ve been to the ones in Tokyo (there are two) and Osaka. The Osaka shop is pretty against photos, but the Tokyo shops either don’t care or didn’t notice that we were taking pictures, ahaha. As a general rule, don’t take pictures. Unless you can ninja some, in which case PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
The cuts have some biggish images, so be warned!
JUMP Shop Osaka
Located in Osaka’s Umeda area, it’s in the Yodobashi Camera building’s 7th floor sweets zone. Yodobashi is a short walk from Hankyuu Umeda Station, JR Osaka station, and the Midosuji Subway Osaka station. (In fact, from the Midosuji Subway stop, you can get off of the subway and never leave the underground to enter Yodobashi!)
When you get to Yodobashi Camera, take the escalators up to the 7th floor. You can take certain elevators up there, but the wait for them is rather long. Once you get to the 7th floor, you will be in one of two spots.
From Uniqlo: If you arrive in the Uniqlo store, get off the elevator and head to the left. You’ll make a right turn and walk down the hall. You’ll immediately see the dog alien thing that is Kagura’s pet from Gintama. That, obviously, is where the Osaka JUMP Shop is.
From Comme ca Café/Sweets Museum: The Sweets Museum area is really fabulous, so take a much needed sugar break while you are here. After you get off the escalators, walk around the shops and head down the hall (there are two, but either hall will do). The Sweets museum area has black walls and floors, so before you hit the cream colored clothing area, you’ll pass the JUMP Shop.
As for the shop itself, it’s a decent sized store. It’s relatively easy to find, and if you get lost there are information desks on the first floor of Yodobashi Camera. I believe they speak some English, just remember to speak slowly and clearly! Of course, if you can memorize some Japanese phrases and understand the possible answers, that’s good too.
The shop keeps a rotating floor plan, and has a few Gachapon machines and a name sticker making machine. At this time, the One Piece and Reborn sections are pretty decently sized, the Naruto section is not too bad either. This JUMP Shop has the most t-shirts that I have seen, and the sizes run from Japanese XS to L size. (Japanese sizes run on the small size, so be warned). This shop also seems to have more posters and a small manga collection, and features trading cards for the Cardass games.
The shop is usually kind of crowded, but as long as you’re patient you can maneuver pretty well through the store. You can’t really take pictures here mostly because I think the other stores don’t like it. You can try to take a picture, but if there is a sign that says “NO PICTURES” or if someone comes up to you and says “No” and points to your camera, do the right thing. Put the camera away.
Bonus: Try out Comme ca Café for the BEST CAKES EVER. Expensive but delicious. We call it the cakegasm place. On the eith floor there is a Capprisios resturant that specializes in pastas, and has a rice crouqette with cheese in the center that is AMAZING. (Vegetarians beware: Most of the sauces here have some form of meat or fish in them, and dairy)
Tokyo:
Tokyo Dome JUMP Shop

This shop is the biggest of the JUMP shops that I have seen and I think it is the flagship shop (though I could be wrong). As you can see below, I have taken a few pictures so you know what the shop looks like. Located within spitting distance of Tokyo Dome, this shop is one of my favorites I think. One, because it’s big and the storefront is pretty awesome, and two, because it is near Tokyo Dome and I think that is pretty awesome. Tokyo Dome itself offers a small amusement park with some rides and a baseball museum, and during Japan’s baseball season, you can possibly even catch a Tokyo Giants game! If you can get tickets. (I have no idea how much they are or how you go about getting some without the crazy fans buying them all.)
When you get out of the station, look for the big, white poofy domed building. That would be Tokyo Dome. HEAD DIRECTLY TO IT. There should also be signs along your way. Keep checking the maps that you find, just to make sure that you are on track. You’ll want to head towards the Tokyo Dome attractions area. When you get to the Attractions, keep heading straight towards a big open plaza, with the amusement rides on your left and the Dome on your right. You’ll see a glass pyramid to your left, head that direction. When you see a staircase heading down, take that. You’ll come onto another shopping plaza, and to your right will be the Tokyo Dome JUMP Shop.
This shop is long and narrow. There are two entrances to the shop, one by the cash registers, and one on the far end. I suggest entering by the far end, because you won’t smash into the line for the registers.
This shop had some manga, lots of goods and gachapon machines. They also had the Cardass game machines as well. I went on a Saturday, and it was pretty crowded. This was my first time at this particular JUMP Shop, so I have no idea if it is usually this crowded, but Tokyo is usually crowded regardless of when you are visiting. I liked this shop, the atmosphere was pretty fun and they had a bunch of cool things.
If you want to take pictures of the storefront, go ahead. Pictures inside are NOT allowed, the picture that we took of the movie poster was rather crappy for that specific reason. We were trying to be stealthy. (Okay, my friend was trying to be stealthy. I was going to sit outside ready to run if we got in trouble, AHAHA.) The storefront is pretty awesome, decorated in panels from major JUMP series (and some minor), like Naruto, Bleach, D.Grayman, Reborn, One Piece, and a few others that I don’t read or know the names of. There are signboards inside that the JUMP mangaka have drawn on, and they are pretty awesome and NOT FOR SALE. Trust me, I would own some by now if they were, ahahaha!

There IS an information building here, but I have no idea if they would speak English. There are signs all over with English on them, so you should be okay, but don’t hesitate to ask! Most information booths I have been to really DO try to help you.
Tokyo Station JUMP Shop and TV Tokyo Shop
The smallest of the three JUMP Shops I have been to so far, but very awesomely decorated. Right now, as you’ll see in the pictures, it’s decked out for the One Piece movie Strong World (At least, I believe that the Strong World thing is a movie, I am not much of a OnPi fan). It’s pretty awesome looking. The storage room by the register is decorated like Ichiraku Ramen (TOTALLY COOL, but fyi I am a dork like that). The storefront has Gachapon machines and more manga decoration. Again, pictures inside the store are kind of Not Cool, The pictures I have taken are from in front of the store. I took one of my pictures right in front of one of the clerks as she was fixing that gachapon machines, and she just smiled bemusedly at me, so I guess that was okay.
The TV Tokyo shop also has some Naruto goods, and is in the same area so you should definitely check it out!
Directions:
Take the Yaesu Central Exit from Tokyo Station. You’ll be in the first floor basement (if you aren’t, you have mixed something up). To your right if you go down that hall are some really good ramen shops. To your left lies Tokyo Character Street, which is where you want to head. This area is REALLY crowded, so if you have a lot of belongings, leave them at your hotel/hostel, or in a coin locker. (there are some to the right near the ramen street, but they might be all full)
You’ll have to navigate the sea of people around Tokyo Character Street. There are all sorts of cool little shops with cute things, so you might find something that isn’t Naruto related that you like! So, after you leave the gate and head left towards the first shop (there were comedian goods and some Evangelion stuff there when I went, this probably changes), turn right. Go down the hall, turn left and the JUMP shop should be at the far end of the hall. If it’s not, you might have to go another row of stores deeper into the Tokyo Character Street area. It sounds confusing, I know, so I have included the map here as well.

TV Tokyo Shop
If you are looking for a REALLY awesome momento of Japan that is Naruto related AND cultural, the TV Tokyo Shop currently has different Naruto cell phone charms for most of the prefectures of Japan. I pretty much flipped out because I have been searching Osaka for the Osaka charm, only to find it in Tokyo! Haha. I’ve included a picture of mine here, so you have a better idea of what I mean.
The TV Tokyo Shop is in the same row of shops that the JUMP Shop is in, so you should have no problem finding it.

Gatchpon like WOAH:
There are JUMP Shops in Nagoya, Fukuoaka and Sapporro as well. I have not been to these shops (yet, I hope to visit them all eventually), and during the summer there is apparently a JUMP Shop located on the Yurikamome Line’s Daiba stop. Near as we can figure, it’s put there for the Comiket Crowd who probably enjoy standing in line all the way back to Daiba. (I wish I was joking. I hate Comiket.)
Some other shops that might interest you, should you be in Japan and have time to spare! [Note: I highly recommend coming to Japan for something other than buying things. There is a LOT to do in Japan! At least go to Kyoto<3] If you are studying abroad, there is nothing better then wasting Mom and Dad’s (or the government’s) money on some questionable purposes. XD You have most likely heard about these places, but I’ll give you links to the store info (where possible) so you can search out and locate a store near where you are traveling to!
Animate:
http://www.animate.co.jp/
Store search (Japanese): http://www.animate.co.jp/shop/
Websites are Japanese only, sorry. D:
Most Animate stores have manga, goods and CDs, so you should be able to find things. Manga are sorted by publisher, so make sure you know that before you go hunting down manga*.
I have been to Animates in a few different cities, and they vary in size and wealth of goods. At the moment, if you are looking for Reborn and Hetalia, you’re golden, but if you want Naruto goods this is a pretty so-so spot. As for manga, it’s fairly reliable although there are some Animates that don’t always have the newest thing.
*if you want manga, I suggest looking for used book and manga shops. You can find really good deals on them there. These are generally not chains, so keep your eyes open for them!
Mandarake:
http://www.mandarake.co.jp/
There are several Mandarake locations around Japan. If you want doujin and used goods and manga, Mandarake is your place. It has helped me locate MANY things at very decent prices. You can sometimes find cosplay and lolita items as well. Be warned that they might not allow you to try things on, either for lack of a dressing room or just because that is the way it is.
Mandarake is a pretty fabulous place. They have an online web page that I believe has an English version, and store locations. If you aren’t with your parents or adults, I’d hit this up, otherwise Mom and Dad or Grandma or your little brother might see things going places they should not go.
Unlike in other book stores, I think everything in Mandarake is pretty well wrapped up, the doujinshi especially. Doujinshi is organized by Genre (aka Series), so all the Naruto will be in the same section together. Before you go, brush up on the names of your pairings in Japanese, and search it out. The Naruto Section is usually srted into there categories, KakaIru カカイル, NaruSasu ナルサス, Sasuke-uke サスケ受, Naruto-uke ナルト受, Kakashi-uke カカシ受, Other その* and Normal Couples 男女/ノマルカップル. At least, that’s what I think is the right listings for them, I can’t remember what “others” is actually called as I haven’t been looking in there for a few years. (Note: I can’t remember the kanji that goes in place of *, sorry!)
And I think that’s it. Feel free to ask me any questions, I’ll answer them when I get home from this weekend. I might also add a picture of the Osaka JUMP store when I get back, as I will be there this weekend.
Hope you find this helpful! 8D
