Well, Kakashi said that 27 graduated from the Academy but only 9 would become genin, which makes for three teams (In Naruto's year only team 7, 8 and 10 makes it). I kinda wonder how they decide who does or doesn't make it though. What if more teams than that are good enough their Sensei's think they could cut it?

Yeah, I was wondering if they died or something. Or maybe Team Gai has just bonded more with the rookies over being the only teams in that young from Leaf who took that particular chuunin exam....

Well it's probably at least partly that and partly the fact that Gai and Kakashi are friends so they're drawn into that mix more than another team would be. I still suspect they died though.

I see Kakashi and Tenzou getting along maybe over a drunken rant about Kakashi though. They understand each other's pain. One could even be sober and take the other home and sympathize with them. I want to write something for them longer than the 500 word short I did for 100 themes but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I can't do KakaGai. I don't have anything against Gai and I know the logic for KakaGai but it just doesn't work for me. It's not because my OTP is KakaIru either because I can do KakaTenz and I can do KakaIruTenz and KakaAnko and KakaKure and YonKaka and KakaGen. I also like to put Gai with Ibiki(I love this pairing), Anko, Shizune, and Ayame. I've read a couple KakaGai fics and they bother me, there's only ever been one that I liked and could 'see' working.

It has a lot to do with the fact that Kakashi reminds me very much of my husband and Gai reminds me of my husband's best friend and their interaction is like very similar to the point that it is scary and while his best friend totally has a full on man-crush on my husband there is no sexual tension there. So the thought of Kakashi and Gai together makes me well roll my eyes and laugh and go Nooo sorry but no it'd never happen. They're best friends they love each other very much and would do just about anything for the other but just not in a romantic way.

I think Athame on y-gallery writes him with Ibiki sometimes and I have a couple shorts that have him and Tenzou then one longer piece that's well non-con with Ibiki (it's complicated but Ibiki's not evil or anything) In Training Kakashi he's with Ibiki IIRC. Mine is Test (IbikiGai), Cute In An Odd Way (GaiTenz), and now it's mentioned in Drunk and Dare (GaiTenz), I'd have to look up the ones that Athame has with him it's been forever since I read all of her fics.

I take that back. I can see the results in my email, but the only vote it took was mine and if I try to see it here, LJ says I can't....so confusing!

It won't let me vote, but I leaning towards there was either a generation skip/gap there, or the other teams had something unfortunate happen to them that prevented them from moving forward. (Possibly, death etc)

I agree that the Gai - Kakashi thing would make Team Gai a lot more likely to be familiar with Team 7; also Neji's connection to Hinata keeps him in the Rookie Nine circle in a way.
